"I had gone by the Sherwood Restaurant a million times but never stopped in. So last Sunday my girlfriend and I decided to check it out. Ends up they have great deals on Breakfast Specials and the portions were HUGE ! The food was very good and just a continual flow of people coming in. It is one of Branford's best kept secrets ! Well done ... Keep up the great work. I highly recommend this restaurant !"

"I still remember my father bring home fish and chips wrapped in newspaper from Golden. It was delicious then and I hoped was delicious now. But today the prices are high, the batter is thick, and the portions are modest. At best, this place is a once a year visit down memory lane."

"Don’t waste your time or money. We got seated, and no one came to take our order. A girl eventually said she spotted us and that no one marked down our table. Our orders were taken and the fruit salad was moldy. It took 15 minutes for me to flag down the waitress and she grabs the fruit out of the bowl with her hands and spins it around as if she didn’t believe there was mold. She offers a new salad and I told her it’s fine I’m turned off of the fruit. She then proceeded to say that it happens sometimes. I asked for more syrup for my husbands pancakes because we only got a small pack that didn’t cover both pancakes. She agrees. Returns 15 minutes later long after the pancakes are gone. Water was empty more than half our stay and no one checked on us or offered to top up. There were no waitresses around to even flag down. Our whole section was empty except for us and the place was not packed. We ask for the bill and had to wait another 10 minutes. She drops the bill off then says there’s no machines. So we waited another 10 minutes. It was only after a different waitress spotted us that we got service. When paying the waitress starts making excuses (even though we didn’t complain but she clearly is aware we were neglected) about how we were sat in her area but then her area was moved. No apology. Just her excuses. So unprofessional. If you see the older lady with long brown hair in a pony tail, I recommend you ask for a different, more attentive and professional server. Food was mediocre."

"Looked on Trip Advisor and checked out some restaurant reviews and decided to check Penny Whistle out. Was not sure what to expect but was willing to experience the moment. Came in and was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the bar / restaurant. Tables were clean as well as the floors and bar area. Sat down and the waiter, Dave welcomed us. I mentioned that I had read the reviews on the restaurant which seemed t perk more interest. We asked about the menu, British, Canadian and Indian food and he explained the various chooses of food being offered. We picked two different dishes: Penny Whistle pie and the steak sandwich. The drinks were Tomato juice and iced tea. For starters we tried the soup of the day Carrot ginger (one bowl for two).The soup was extremely good (good taste). Would order again. The tomato juice was good bad surprised with the ice added. The ice tea was good and could the ice in that.Found the steak sandwich to be good with the garden salad (French) on the side. Could not eat the bun as it was large. The Penny Whistle pie was very good with chicken and veggies inside. The pastry was flaky not doughy which was good.The meal was very good as well as the price. Found the service by Dave to be very good. He came over several times to check and make sure all was good. He was very helpful during our visit.The owner also came over to check on the service and food. The restaurant was not busy initially (we came around 4:30 PM) however it was more then half full by the time we left at 6:30 PM. Not bad considering this was a long weekend. It was a good visit to this restaurant / British pub which we will visit again and try some other dishes so we can experience the moment.Good one Dave. Ted"
