"Absolutely disgusting.Had to wait ages as the gentleman was taking one persons order and cooking,serving before taking the next order.When the 6 of us finally got ours and left to go and eat we were welcomed by a horrible smell on opening the wrappers.The chips were literally burnt,cod was undercooked as well as smelling off,the sausages and battered burger were also undercooked.Should think he has to fill the fryers with fat regularly as there was so much of it in the paper.The taste was of sour fat so don’t think that has been changed for a while. This is very disappointing as had several visits here before and always been lovely. Have heard that the place is up for sale and I’m not surprised,and won’t be going back until new owners are in and hopefully get this place back on its feet. Spent over £30 between us to have to literally throw the whole lot in the hedge for the birds(That’s even if they eat them) I wouldn’t normally put posts like this on a website but honestly the worst I’ve ever had."

"The pantry offers first class service and very cheap prices. I had a roast there and it was pretty good. not perfect, but it is difficult to expect more for the price. they do not accept credit or debit, but there are many cash machines close by."

"Good eating, good atmosphere, nice staff and very covid conscious. located directly near the water and boats in the marina, with extensive space to sit outside the restaurant. bowl for dogs water. very popular for walks, followed by a drink. enjoy several meals. here including beautiful fish and chips and a Sunday roast. fair prices."

"Popped in for fish and chips while we were staying in the village. Took ages to cook the food and the shop only takes cash too so a bit of fiddling while we found some change in the car. Fish was not too bad, tasty meat but greasy heavy batter. Chips quite greasy and not as well cooked as some but still tasty, just not the best."

"The professional cast crew of the touring theatre show Pearls from The Grit had an outstanding fish chip late lunch early supper in between matinee and evening performances. 11 VERY satisfied diners thank you for making our big group so very welcome and for feeding us so very well."

"We arrived at the Village Maid and were made welcome by the staff. I ordered Fish Pie but what came up was nothing like a fish pie . Normally it’s cooked in its own individual bowl and you can then order sides to go with it .What came up was peas, cabbage , a large piece of broccoli , a few bits of fish floating in a very bland sauce , with a dollop of warm mash placed on top . It didn’t have any flavour and shouldn’t have been described as fish pie . I would never have ordered this had I have known what was going to be served . When the waiter came back to take our plates he asked us if everything was ok . I told him what I’ve said here that it can hardly be described as fish pie as it was just not cooked the way a fish pie is . He said that he had received feedback like that before and that the wording on the menu should be changed . So my point is why are they still describing it as fish pie!! It’s misleading to say the least , very disappointed with the food here"
