"Fox's Lair is more than a restaurant, it's a dimension! As soon as we enter we were captured by the unique atmosphere of the place that consists of two rooms connected by a corridor. The bar area, furnished in full Irish style with tables and armchairs in the center where you can have a good glass of wine or beer while waiting to sit for dinner. When our table was ready we were escorted to the other room that also had a fine traditional decoration. Each dish was cooked with great wisdom and mastery, of the soaked mushrooms that was simply delicious with its crunchy freshness of coating and the richness in flavor to the delicious cheese pancake balls the best I have had! Also when the chef learned that we were vegetarians, he personally came to the table to offer us alternatives that added additional points to an already first-class gastronomic experience. I agree with other reviewers who say you'll be lost if you visit Bundoran without eating at The Fox's Lair. I will definitely visit again at the first opportunity possible! A. "I was left feeling very dissatisfied with the whole experience, when I dined here this summer. We waited around one hour for the mains to come out and at this stage I was hangry. The restaurant was quite busy but I feel if there wasn't a problem with management things would work better. The Woman in the blue/black dress whom I can only assume is the manager is clearly incompetent at her job. When the food finally arrived the portion size was quite small! Personally I am an experienced diner and I've eaten in busy Restaurants where service on time is never an issue. We paid our bill of 100e and left and there were no hospital gestures to make us want to return here again."

"Dined in this restaurant on a recent overnight in the Clanree Hotel. First thing that we noticed was there were no prices on the menu. There was just a list of meals so we asked the waitress what the prices were. She started then to tell us there were different options as regards the number of courses we could have, and the price etc. It would have made much better sense to put all the prices and the options on the menu – at least it would give diners a chance to have their minds made up by the time their meal orders were taken. It would have saved us having to ask and then the waitress having to recite the whole lot. We opted for two courses – mains and dessert. We had mains of Fish and Chips and Baked Loin of Bacon. Both were delicious and the portions generous. Desserts were equally tasty and our two-course meal with a bottle of wine cost us under €60, which is excellent value. Unfortunately there was one very negative experience in the restaurant – as we finished our meal I noticed a lady bringing her dog out of the restaurant. She arrived back in with it a few minutes later, but wasn’t challenged by any of the staff on duty. We asked at reception what the policy about animals in the restaurant was and we were told they weren’t allowed – however it transpired that the lady with the dog was the owner of McGettigans Pub in the hotel. So does that mean that all guests can bring their dogs into the restaurant? I don’t think so and if there is a rule of no animals in the restaurant, it should apply to everyone, regardless of who they are. It is just not acceptable on health and safety grounds. Unfortunately it has made us rethink a visit to the Clanree, even though we enjoyed it. Dogs should not be in any hotel, never mind a restaurant."

"After a disappointing and expensive meal in Rosses Point the previous evening we opted to go Italian in the Blue Leaf after another wonderful long day out in the air. We were hungry. While the decor is not anything to write home about the staff were lovely and extremely welcoming. I had a simple garlic prawns starter which was tasty and well presented. My wife went for lasagne and I had the spaghetti bolognaise. Both were excellent and large portions which exactly what you would wish for after a long day out and about. Good value and homely cooking all around and I could not speak highly enough about the staff. I thought I had left my glasses behind which I hadn’t and rang the restaurant that evening at 11pm not only did they check everywhere but they rang me back later to say they couldn’t find them and even sent me a photo the next morning of a another pair they had located). Way beyond the call of duty. Lovely staff and good Italian food. I would highly recommend if you are hungry and looking for a good satisfying pasta meal which is well priced."
