"We had eaten at this pub about 4 years previous and had heard some good things said about the food since a change of Tennant. We had planned to go elsewhere but due to unforseen circumstances, we had to find somewhere else and decided to give it a try. Glad that we did!Due to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, availability is becoming more scarce between Monday and Wednesday and The Observatory were very accommodating and managed to fit us in at short notice during mid-afternoon. In terms of safety from Covid-19, the measures put in place we're more than robust. One way systems, Social Distancing and hand sanitiser all backed up by plenty of signage.The menus were laminated and were still slightly damp from being recently cleaned. The menu was varied but not over-facing with more choices than were needed. The choices of ales was also quite varied with some guest ales that were very unique.My lads opted for the Haloumi starter and then the Burger, with extras such as bacon and pulled pork. I opted for the chipolata starter and Fish Chips, while the wife chose Sweet Chilli Chicken Wings and the Chicken Sizzler with jerk sauce.The drinks were all served chilled where needed and the guest IPA was crisp and well kept. The starters came out quite quickly and were freshly cooked and piping hot. There was plenty to share and all were extremely tasty. Not too filling either. Again, the mains followed shortly after finishing the starters and again were freshly prepared and piping hot. The Burgers were freshly made patties of about 1/4lb and the lads absolute loved them. They came with fries which were very crispy but soft in the middle.The Chicken sizzler was very tender and fried with onions and peppers. Again, this came with fries.The Fish and Chips came with mushy peas and tartar sauce. The Fish was a very generous portion, and the chips were very thick and crispy. The whole meal was more than satisfactory and a huge improvement on the previous tenants. I would recommend The Observatory to anyone looking for a great eating/drinking experience for a very reasonable price. I will certainly be going back to try more of the menu.Well done to the Management and team at The Observatory. Thanks for a great experience."

"In any case have a joy, authentic home cooked eating from kerala in Britain. it was a pleasant surprise to find this oasis in blackburn. I recommend definitiw for non vegetarian lovers, but there are many possibilities for veggie lovers too. a beautiful, precise disc and mushroom plate dingri dolma seems the cooking speciality. the naan was soft and melted in my mouth with the lukecious Gravy-based which I tried. the masala dosa with three chutneys and sambhar were appetizing and seemed like a huge public lover. fear that there are no pommes to go with. to complete, I recommend the paalada a sweet pudding from rice something that reminded me of childhood memories. a delicate thing that is cooked by my grandfather and sometimes my mother in front of an eon! I would recommend eating here more than once a week as the ambiente is comforting and easy. it feels easier in any case."

"Great food, great ambiente! eating is amazing. we wanted to try out everything so that we ordered a top of the starter (highly recommended) for the net I definitely enjoyed the pork ribs (finger lick good). the portions are also generous. as for dessert, the melted chocolate cake or the profiterole. I loved both and there were many others I didn't try. the pantry has not disappointed."

"We have been to The Toby many times now and have now made it our regular place to eat. There is plenty of choice to suit all tastes and each time the food is excellent with good service, we always feel very welcome and it is in a fabulous spot too."

"Absolute jewel of a place. the service was before location as per reply to other reviews the owner/operator has checked on our party several times by the night to check everything was ok. (and it was) the prices are fair, but I believe they get what they pay and the used ingredients were not cheap or sub-standard in any wise. I had the pfeffer huh, and the huh was perfectly moist and the portion sizes were right for everyone. many thanks for the delicious meal, and we will be back in the future."
