"Wow, what can I say. We came for our end of holiday meal having passed this place almost every day on our way to Ars en Re. With two young girls it’s hard to please but this was really good French food at its best....We would recommend the fish especially the tuna or Sea Bass. If you are round this part of the island I would recommend this totally. A must for us next year and we won’t be leaving it to our last night this time."

"Quality seafood, nicely presented salmon tartar, homemade fries (and coming from the North, border with Belgium, I can tell you that it means a lot! . Homemade desserts also... We don't regret stopping here. Make sure you're ready! All the restaurants are stormed, but the boss has been nice enough to let us cling to three on a table of two. Well then, it's expensive... But of course it's expensive! Terrace that overlooks the port of Ars, the prices will obviously not be given. And this restaurant could have been a catcher/cyclist, which is not the case. Anyway, if you ride the island by bike, and you're looking to stop on Ars, and that's not a bad choice!"

"Just came out of that bar a vins. Judging from the reviews, we were honestly expecting something else. The experience was less than average. The wine (freezing cold saint Nicolas de Bourgueil was probably worth less than a fiver, and the cheese and charcuterie platter...came straight from a supermarket. As for the dessert (riz au lait , they did not even hide the fact that it wasn't homemade (supermarket pot... . So, please avoid that place, unless what you are only after is a beer on a nice terrace overlooking the port. The waiter (a nice chap by the way really looked like he was sorry to have to serve that food, particularly at that price."

"After two hours drive, after the first thing we needed was a coffee. that was the first caffe we came through, and in the load were two very helpful ladies, behind a theke full of the most tempting cake, baked and sandwiches. experimentation made us better and we both had one of the domestic cakes with our drinks. we sat outside and had a beautiful view of all that went on the square in front, and enjoyed our little taste of the French patti series!"

"Just a little way off the bustling waterfront of Ars-en-Re, it is beautifully set for a peaceful, high quality meal - indoors or in the shade of parasols and olive trees in the garden. We visited on a very warm day but there was sufficient shade in the garden for the four of us to feel very comfortable over a leisurely lunch..The staff were very welcoming, cheerful, efficient and helpful.For starters we had: prawns, pata negra ham and rocket salad; lentils and haddock; green papaya salad Vietnamese-style (spicy) and, herings with a light curry sauce. Main courses were: maigre (a firm yet tender white fish) with confit shallots and their own take on saute potatoes; lamb shank with Moroccan spices, prunes and cons-cous; fillet steak; and, monkfish with clams and roast mango. Desserts were limited to coque gourmand (chocolate ball containing cream and raspberry coulis - shared by two), ice cream and coffee.Presentation was lovely, colours vibrant and complimenting tastes and textures. If there were (small) disappointments, they were that the Moroccan spices were overwhelmed by the sweetness of the prunes for the lamb dish and the ice cream was not home-made - probably Carte-D'Or judging by the plate on which they were served. Nothing wrong with them but we expected better.We had aperitifs and a bottle of chardonnay from the Ile-de-Re. Not knowing what to expect (our server recommended it), we were very pleasantly surprised by it and enjoyed it. Not a heavy chardonnay but fresh and no hint of oak; it was just right on a hot day with the different types of dishes and flavours we had chosen.Le Grenier de Sel is not cheap - our bill came to 200€. However, we considered that not inappropriate for the quality of food, service and environment we enjoyed. There are times for burger and chips among the crowds but if you want lunch to be an occasion in lovely surroundings, come here."
