"Every Sunday there is a vide grenier (empty attic the French equivalent of a car boot sale) in Paulhan. The sun was shining as we circled the stalls before sitting outside for a cup of coffee at the Café du Commerce. One of our party, who lives in the village, had booked a table for lunch. I held out no hopes for anything decent to eat and, because the sun was shining, a table was laid for the six of us on the terrace. I 'd imagined lousy food brought to the table via freezer and microwave. How wrong can one be! This book 's cover was totally misleading. Madame, who has a wicked sense of humour, brought out one steaming dish after another, the food was delicious and the portions generous. Three plates of huge gambas (six each) cooked in garlic and parsley with a salad and homemade chips. The other dishes chosen by our party of six were baked Camembert and mushroom omelette. It was all scrumptious and a joy to be eating outside in the sun on the 28th February. We were lucky; next day the whole of the Hèrault was deep in snow!"

"A charming little French bistro nestled in a residential area of South Pasadena. The parking is extremely easy because there are many parking spaces in the street available without a counter or allowed in this part of the city. It is a small place, but well done in this sense that the tables are not too close together and allow them to eat inside and outside. Our waitress Fabienne was very polite and attentive, she did an excellent job. I love bistros and I go often, so I've already come by knowing what I wanted to have, but as usual, I was influenced by the chef's dish for my entry. I started with French onion soup and it was very good and made in a classic style, perfect for a cold winter night. We also ordered the cheese balls (goat cheese and gruyère wrapped in prosciutto) and these were exceptionally tasty; They sold me once I heard the goat cheese. For my entry, I was going to take the trout but when I heard the special ribs, I chose it and it was rich and delicious. I wish he came with more sauce than I missed halfway, but it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. A big bistro all around and I would recommend it to everyone. It's nice to get out of LA on the occasion to mix it, then come north in this quiet area and an excellent service was a pleasure.
