"Purple Yam Manila is a culinary vision of Romy Dorotan and Amy Besa. This power couple is behind NYC's Cendrillon (SoHo) and Purple Yam (Brooklyn). They also authored "Memories of Philippine Kitchen" which summarizes their reflection in Philippine food culture, its flavors and tastes.<br> <br> No wonder Purple Yam Manila would be an expression of their deep love of the cultural heritage in terms of Filipino cuisine.<br> <br> Their menu costs P2,500 per person and when you go through their degustation menu (with some chit-chat with Amy), you would realize all of it is worth it.<br> <br> We started out with an "amuse bouche" of popcorn with dried fish and roasted garlic. Then cheese tart with Malagos Farm Rustica cheese and kesong puti from Sta. Cruz Laguna. The pastry shell was flaky and buttery. The cheese tart was served with fresh guava compote.<br> <br> Next was Kinagang, a Sorsogon "tamale" with shrimps and crabmeat on a bed of buko *&amp; lukadon all wrapped in banana leaf. Then served was Binacol with organic chicken (leg-part), bokchoy, red radish &amp; buko which had the aromatic coconut broth poured from a bamboo stem.<br> <br> Main course was platters of Beef shortrib adobo with mango vinegar from Abra, barbecued baby back ribs with black peppercorn from Dugan farm Batangas, Camote Anna (camote &amp; taro ala pommes Anna) and a native green salad of spinach, watercress, sayote tops, tomato &amp; mangosteen dressing.<br> <br> Then there was dessert the made one of the ladies cry at the other table, i kid you not! Purple Yam Malate Special Iced Dessert!! Watermelon ice, home-made nata &amp; kaong, passionfruit sorbet, mangisteen ice cream and pinipig.<br> <br> To make it short, everything was spectacular!! Fresh clean flavors!&nbsp;<br> <br> Was it worth it?....... It's all worth it. Just keep your palate open to all possibilities. <br><br><a href="https://www.zomato.com/spoonback?u=http%3A%2F%2Fboodlebear.wordpress.com&amp;r=3395411&amp;to=3033855&amp;k=25a49a3f3f4a79ef706e868343784f74" target="_blank"><span class="left red-text">boodlebear.wordpress.com</span><span class="grey-text left ml5" data-icon="ŧ"></span></a>"

"Ate here Sunday dinner. The place is old. Table with plastic wrap. The food was expensive, nothing special. We had the mild fish fillet with the same, shrimp prawns was delicious, chilli chicken with peanuts was too sweet and the portion was very small, if you order the small size it is really small. Crab Meat Rice. Beef and tripe with hot sauce was a winner."

"If you're around taft and is craving for korean food, I would recommend you to check out The Street. This restaurant serves affordable korean food. Affordable because for every order of their rice bowl, you get a free soup and iced tea. I got U Samgyeop and it was really tasty and certainly make you full. Although the place was quite small to accommodate large groups, service was really quick and servers were attentive and friendly."

"Gloria Maris is by far, still one of the best Chinese restaurants in the country, especially in events and gatherings. This branch is the first branch of Gloria Maris outlets. Staffs are knowledgeable, fast and friendly. On most occasions, this restaurant is always full. It offers fresh seafood at a reasonable price. Chefs are Cantonese. A great venue for gatherings or reunions. Ample parking available. They also have an al fresco style of dining at the garden area I love their crab sotanghon and hot chicken salad. Always ask for what's new because most of the time they have new offerings or promos. The managers are always there to suggest and take your orders. Go for the live fish and...read more"
