"Today my friend was in the mood to go out for dinner. Since a Vietnamese restaurant has been opened just recently, we wanted to visit that place. So we went to “Pho Pho You”. It is a nice, small restaurant beside the Columbia Street skytrain station. We felt quite comfortable; my friend due to the nice interior while I liked the mild, relaxing music in the background. We ordered Grilled Lemongrass Chicken on Rice (comes weirdly with Miso Soup) and Grilled Lemongrass Chicken and Prawn Bowl with Vermicelli. The price was about 10-20% above the average. Our items were served after noodle soups that other customers ordered later, which was an indication that some of our items were prepared fresh in some way. The piece of Lemongrass Chicken on rice was quite large. The Lemongrass Chicken and Prawn Bowl looked good to. The taste of both dishes was well. The only disappointing item was the Miso Soup. I don’t know why this restaurant (which has in their own name the word for Vietnamese Noodle soup twice) was serving a Japanese soup at all. This soup tasted bland, almost completely watery. It is great that this restaurant wants to avoid MSG. But I don’t know whether they know that MSG is occurring also naturally when preparing many kinds of broth. And even beside that, it must be possible to give a soup a reasonable taste at all!It is certainly a restaurant that we wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. But there is still much room for improvement, in particular, when the price should be justified."
