"I have mixed feelings about my experience here. I think this could be outstanding. Great venue, great vibe. Helpful staff choosing a wine, good selection of beer. Walked in via the back as we parked in the car park. Bar staff welcoming and friendly. Ordered a drink and decided to sit outside. The front was clean and tidy but on a main road so busy and noisy. (Not unpleasant at all) decided to head to the secret garden at the back. It was lovely but a bit windy, I imagine it would be stunning on a still day. We hadn’t booked a table but when getting our drinks we were told a table could be available when required. When we were ready we came in and were directed to our table. A round table near the door. The pub was busy but not full. There were other tables that probably would have been a better choice. Our orders were taken (menu has wine matches with the meals) I ordered the roast loin of pork with crackling. He ordered roast sirloin of beef. All roasts come with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, braised red cabbage, broccolini, greens, roasted roots (we had parsnip and carrot) and lashings of gravy. We waited quite awhile for our meals to come. At one stage one of the staff came to ask if we were waiting for food. Plates served, there was definitely lashings of gravy but I had to hunt for the crackling. It was a good meal, good serving. If I had to be picky I’d say the pork was a bit dry but it was smothered in gravy so I didn’t mind. Be nice to see the gravy served in a jug so you can add your own. No one came during the meal to check if it was ok or if we wanted more drinks. Bloody Mary needs a little bit of work but ok. Disappointed to be charged 10% service charge on the bill. I don’t mind paying for service but didn’t feel that the service warranted the charge. Overall I enjoyed my meal, I would go back."

"Came here for lunch en route to Standen on Good Friday. It was a spur of the moment thing. We sat in the small but pleasant garden. Limited menu today so we opted for the chicken Cajun baguettes each with a portion of onion rings/fries to share. Food was very good. Hot, freshly prepared and cooked to order. Stayed for tea and coffee. Very nice helpful and friendly young man behind the bar. Whilst sitting in the garden we watched a pair of buzzards flying low overhead and also had robin Join us and a variety of butterflies. Joyful."

"So glad we chose to have my dad's 50th birthday meal here!! The service from Michelle, liz and Simon was amazing for such a large table! They made sure everyone was happy with their food and kept us all topped up with drinks. The friendly staff really created a lovely atmosphere and they even sang happy birthday and brought out a cake for him. Would defenitely reccomend! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"
