"Paella spoiled and fault not recognized by the establishment. Uncooked squids. A shame for anyone who likes to cook and eat! A boss who leaves rather than coming to apologize for the dishes sent to the dining room. A big disappointment. I strongly advise against it, it's not what it was before!!"

"The weather was blowing a gale straight off the Atlantic. We needed a restaurant as near to our hotel as possible The Ibaia fitted the bill. No one but us and raving lunatics were going to be out and about and so we were not surprised to be the only patrons in the restaurant that evening. Subsequently we found that there might also be another reason. Some of the recent reviews of this restaurant have been minimal score and some quite vicious, but at the time we did not know that.Being the only patrons there, of course the service was personal and first class, so it might not be fair to make a judgement. However we could judge the food which was remarkably good. They didn't have the particular rose wine we ordered but offered a substitute which was first class. With the gale trying to lift the sun blind into the sky and the door rattling in the wind, we did tend to develop a survivor relationship with "le patron". But I can only speak as I find. The food was simple Basque cuisine, well cooked and well worth eating. The restaurant is pleasantly decorated and the owner seemed to be a personable guy not bearing any resemblance to the petulant criticisms of some of the reviewers. I did wonder if they went to the same place as we did and looking at the picture which Tripadvisor have published of the place is also bewildering as it shows the HOTEL Ibaia in Hendaye and I don't suppose our restaurant man can be held responsible for that!Don't be put off by the low rating reviews, they seem to have other axes to grind. Try it for yourselves. We enjoyed it but of course we had the benefit of a Force 8 gale!"

"At the end of a small street in the old St-Jean-de-Luz, a typical restaurant where you can enjoy with Basque specialties. For me, the Basque plate was a treat accompanied by a small sauce that gets married with everything. Take a pressure from the country and you will be delighted"
