"Waldenburg is a pretty little town in the "Ober-Baselbiet" - actually one of Switzerland's prettiest yet touristically very much over-looked regions. We were very pleasantly surprised to find the Restaurant zum Schlüssel one of the best restaurants we've eaten so far - it certainly is the best restaurant in this little valley but probably way beyond. No wonder they tend to get fully booked. The atmosphere is very historical - Napoléon has once spent a night here and some of the decor seems to have been left behind by him and his troops. However, the best thing is the food - very freshly prepared hence allow for some time to get served. It's no frills food - local and seasonal produce rather traditionally cooked yet modern in its approach. Meaning classic recipes but presented with a twist. Nothing's over-cooked and everything's fresh to the max. A rather unique dining experience in the countryside - we'll return whenever we can. Highly recommended."
