"I visited on a Saturday afternoon, for afternoon tea. Warmly welcomed to this oasis of home baking and lovely atmosphere. Tables are shared and many cakes, scones and a fruit pie or two are displayed. Prices are very reasonable, the food is all baked by, and the café is staffed by, volunteers. My cream tea was delightful, cold clotted cream and jam served along with the scone. Friendly service and the staff were attentive and helpful as I asked for a few glasses of cold water on such a hot day. My thanks and appreciation"

"A very disappointing afternoon tea experience at the river and rowing museum cafe starting with a £4 automatic charge to enter the museum car park the cost of which was previously redeemable if eating in the cafe. Ordered a tea for two and a cake which took 20 minutes to receive. In the meantime we asked the waitress to clear and clean our table she took a few plates and cups away the first time then went away to prepare an order for another customer without washing her hands we waited a few minutes and had to ask her to come back to clear the table properly same thing again cleared a few more items but then went back to serving a customer at the till we had to call her a third time to finally wipe down the table. I asked for the manager so I could feedback my concerns there was no manager on site. The waitress informed me that the cafe was now being managed by the Chocolate Cafe. We have been regular visitors with our children for more than 10 years the place is now a very shabby place with the poor service and poor Covid hygiene practice I wont be coming back. The museum brand will be clearly damaged if it continues to allow such service to continue"

"Extremely slow service, and the manner of the barista serving (Sunday morning), was unfriendly. I felt demeaned over an error with my order and as if he wanted to pointedly make it clear that this was my fault (when he had forgotten the extra request), and that he was irritated by it. Overall, an unpleasant exchange that left a lingering bad feeling."

"My theme for this review would be 'Duck 's off ' given our group of 12 pre-ordered but the duck salad had disappeared off the menu before our booking date arrived. I declined to order a replacement as I found the limited choice of four starters (normally my favourite part of eating out) was not to my taste. Maybe a starter with prawns in it would be a good addition or fried breaded brie to provide more alternatives? This choice was reduced further when on arrival we were informed that due to a supply not arriving that day 'Thai fish cake is off '. The owner was very good at suggesting gluten free alternatives. I did stifle a ;laugh when somebody ordered a Pimm 's and was told there was no Pimm 's. The owner and staff were very good at rearranging the furniture to make us comfortable on a very hot day and then moving us indoors. We had originally hoped to sit out on the balcony but soon discovered the flaw in this plan when the sun shone through a glass roof directly above us that didn 't have a blind on it. I didn 't mind waiting an additional 15 minutes for my cod, chips and peas to arrive after the curries and salads had been served as it reassured me that it was freshly cooked from scratch although I know it bothered other people who had already been given their food. As predicted, my large piece of cod was perfectly cooked and the chips had the right balance between being crisp yet fluffy inside. The individually requested condiments that were supplied in half full tiny metal bowls didn 't really seem to fit in with the overall ambience and only covered a third of my fish. The owner entered into some banter with the person paying ahead of me that his meal was a bargain and when he didn 't seem to agree it was pointed out by the owner he did indeed think it was very good value for everything he and wife had for food and drink. I agreed."

"The first meeting for dinner was nice and okay. The next day we strolled over hungry for lunch but met a caos. Would recommend you prenotate before going, as we were dished an unexpected surprise, we waited for close to an hour and a half to be served a plate we jointly demanded to help the kitchen meet their imposed fry pan fried 1/4 chicken."

"On arrival we were told to sit in the conservatory as inside they couldn’t cope with 6 people at one table where we were bombarded by wasps. We were then told that ‘the shoulder of mutton’ the pubs main was not available, also we were told that no ham was available and was being replaced with bacon. Service and food arrival was very slow though the waitress was lovely. For dessert, ordered creme brulee and once again not available. We were a group of pensioners with limited income out to celebrate the birthdays of a 83 and 79 year old. We will definitely not be going back to this establishment."

"Very quaint tea room, well worth visiting for a cream tea or cakes. All home made and good. In the back there are lots of old memorabilia and this was also worth a look. Really nice village too."
