"We were walking from Gruyeres to Charmey and wanted to end our journey with a lovely but casual meal. The bistro at L'Etoile was exactly what we were seeking. The service was excellent. We ordered the menu of the day and everything was exceptionally fresh and well prepared. The asparagus appetizer was wonderful. The beef and morel main course was divine and the warm chocolate fondant dessert was delightful, served with a refreshing sorbet to lighten things up. This is clearly a bistro where many local people enjoy their dinner and we felt most welcome. If you are considering the walk from Gruyeres, please note that the trail along the river and through the gorge was closed when we visited in late April. We hope to do this hike another time. Walking along the roadway is OK (not great) but the trails in the area, when open, are spectacular."

"If you like salads and good vegetables, run away. By taking the Christmas tree salad, I found myself with a pile of tasteless vegetables with ultra lemony oil and of poor quality.
