"Vin & MaréeI discovered this restaurant the other day while out on a walk around the area. It is situated on the Avenue Maine, just a block or two from my hotel. I stopped to look at the menu as I walked by and saw the seafood focus and vowed to return. That I did tonight and I wasn't the least bit disappointed. I was seated at a table for one that looked out onto the busy avenue. A flip-chart type stand was wheeled over to my table with the daily offerings on it. After a quick scan, I had made my choices. The service was good, almost too good. I ordered an aperitif and shortly after it arrived, so did my starter and the glass of wine. The headwaiter saw this and asked if I wanted the soup taken away as I had not had time to finish the aperitif. I said it was fine, partly because I had been busy finishing an email (yes, how rude) and partly because I find an Americano cocktail to be refreshing at any point in the meal. The soupe poissons that arrived was absolutely delicious. With every sip, I was busy trying to analysze the flavours. Was that a hint of cinnamon I detected? Filling as well as tasty. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that about a dozen mussels also accompanied my order - something like chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. These were drizzled in a tarragon flavoured fresh cream.I should admit upfront that I am one of those who peruses the wine list before deciding what to order for dinner. My eye spotted four possibilities, all of them among the most expensive wines by the glass, a grand cru Alsacian Gewurz, a Pouilly Fume, a Sancerre and a Chablis. I think all would have proved interesting matches for my St Jaques scallops main course. I was tempted to order all of them and conduct my own research, but decided to ask for my servers advice. She recommended the Sancerre and I couldn't disagree, it was very good. The scallops were done to perfection and served with a few decorative vegetables and a side of the most delicious, rich mashed potatoes I have ever had. All in all an excellent dinner, there was no way I had room to indulge in a dessert as tempting as they were. Do I recommend this restaurant? If you enjoy seafood - mussels, oysters, etc., yes, you really should go and check it out. That said, based on my small sampling, it would be hard to have a bad meal here. They seem to range from very good to excellent and outstanding. Bon appetite!"
