"We live locally and visit Merlin’s Cave fairly regularly, for coffee tea or lunch. Since the extensive refurbishment programme was completed, the restaurant environment is smart, spacious, comfortable and relaxed. Until a couple of months ago, whilst the food was consistently good, the service was generally slow and not always welcoming. However, it is great to see that this appears to have improved dramatically on our most recent visits. This time we went for lunch and were served by Ethan, who was friendly, prompt and very efficient in every aspect of helping us. Once again the food was really good, with a reasonably priced and varied menu available. Clearly the management have addressed the previous issues well and we would not hesitate to recommend Merlin’s Cave."

"The worst Sunday roast I have ever had, the beef didn’t look anything like beef (light brown in colour). The Yorkshire pudding tasted like paper, the roast potatoes needed a chisel to cut. Needed steel teeth to eat them. Parsnips were burnt , tasteless. The gravy was the only thing that looked half decent, and guess what NO TASTE. BTW , THINK YOU ARE EXPECTED TO EAT WITN YOUR HANDS, AND WIPE YOUR HANDS ON YOUR CLOTHES. RANT OVER"

"You are amazing! I visited a couple of weekends ago with my sister, husband and children. We popped by for brunch. We have eaten here times before and whilst the food and staff have always been nice, the service was taken to another level...by Jude. Funny, kind, patient, knowledgeable, flexible and just a hero. It’s tricky eating out with babies, toddlers and teens. He managed to serve us effortlessly whilst entertaining us and all the younger ones. My sister wanted a coffee that wasn’t on the menu, minutes later Jude had created it. Thank you! We are soon to be living in this neighbourhood and we are so excited to have the Potters on our new doorstep."

"Great new chef-landlord and menu! Whilst retaining its local pub atmosphere Chris has added a great dimension- delicious food. His menu with everything prepared in the kitchen adds a twist here and there raising it well above pub grub. We had the 2 mains, lamb pie and roast poussin, both with real depth of flavour. There are small plates which you can combine as starter or main, the chicken parfait a winner."
