"A good traditional country pub in a lovely location. The pub is clean and welcoming with a fairly large seating area to the rear. The menu includes the sort of things you would expect to find in a village pub and offers a fair choice, especially considering we went mid week for lunch. I had fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish was excellent and tasted very fresh with a crisp and flavoursome batter. For me there were too many chips and oddly some seemed to be over cooked and others undercooked. While the chips let meal down a bit the mushy peas saved the day and I would happily have had a plate of fish and mushy peas. I ordered a cup of tea which tasted antiseptic and was a disappointing end to the meal. I would go again if someone invited me there but probably wouldn't make it my first choice."

"We visited the royal oak yesterday and had the best fish and chips ever! the service was excellent, eating hot and fresh, could not complain at all about both. the new restaurant and menu are excellent. the ambiente was perfect and the menu prices did not exaggerate. we will definitely return."

"Arrived with family really excited for some British sea side fun. I ordered at 6.30 . Chips, large sausage and a fish cake. Took them back to the caravan. There was not one edible chip. Hard cool and full of black spots . I honestly don’t know how they have guts to dish it up. Question for all how can you possibly burn a fish cake? No I didn’t take them back. With 2 children who were exhausted and so me and my daughter just threw them away and made a. Omelette for the children instead. Times are hard for everyone at the minute so please do not waste your money. You really can’t eat the food. Shameful"

"This place has sadly gone downhill, the food is not as good as it used to be, there's never many staff on, the waitresses aren't as friendly, there's no warm welcome when you walk in anymore. Twice they've had no rice in, the lemonade was flat last time we went and the portions have got smaller. Such a shame because we used to love it here!!!!"

"After a horrendous breakfast experience in another location we hadn’t eaten much so decided on fish and chips. The staff here were so accommodating for my parents who both have mobility scooters and couldn’t do enough for us in ensuring we could go in to...eat. The fish and chips were all freshly cooked to order. They were lovely. Somewhere I’d recommend and will be returning to next time I’m in mablethorpe."
