"We talked to our daughter here who visited us for the weekend. My daughter and my husband had the steak they both enjoyed. I had the Chicken Escalope, the lemon bread crumb. The service was right. Restaurant is nicely decorated. It has an outdoor garden with a pizza oven. Worth a visit."

"We ended up at the Coastguard mainly because a couple of our other local favourites were shut ... All my wife and I wanted was a small simple snack and a drink for lunch ... Sadly they dont do simple ... They menu is full of fancy arty farty tosh such as celeriac soup with toasted hazelnuts and sourdough bread ... light bites such as Butternut squash hummus .... Nothing as simple as a sandwich or a bacon roll.. We asked, can you do a simple old sandwich , and after debating it with chef our waitress said we could have a sandwich but they only had sourdough bread and it was a bit tough ... In they end we settled on sharing a burger and chips ..... we had seen the chef walk through the bar with two big bags of chunky chips and thought they looked quite nice ... Sadly we were served with the skinny fries like McD and the burger was as dry as old boot leather, way overcooked .. I ordered a half of lager .... no choices were offered .. what I got was some strange artisan brew that was nasty .... I think this place is a shepherd neame pub , but i may be wrong ... we have had poor food from this brand before . It's all very well to have a fancy pants menu , but why not add just a few items for people on a budget who just want a light lunch I am sure we will not be returning anytime soon"
