"I’m a bit of a food snob and in my 30+ years I’d never tried Chinese. I don’t eat greasy takeaways ever. A year after moving opposite China Inn I was reluctantly persuaded to try it. I hated it. But that’s probably the style of food. Then I tried the fish and chips. Wow; they’re amazing! Only £5.50 and sometimes you get two fish. I think 2 portions of fish and chips could easily feed 2 adults and 3 kids. The portions are massive. The chips are hand cut and honestly the best I’ve had. My partner gets them regularly now. The staff are covid conscious masks, screens, gloves etc. Weirdly no customers ever wear masks. They’re a friendly team too. China Inn doesn’t look aesthetically glam but honestly the fish and chips are my favourite in York. It’s cash only."

"Every year (barring last year, thank you covid) for the past few years I have gone to get a virtuous dog from this place and I intend on keeping up with this tradition. The staff are always so lovely and friendly, the kitchen is kept spick span (brownie points for having separate tongs and tin foil to stay vegan friendly) and the food is to die for very impressed by the range of options!"

"Overall, my experience at five guys (York) was extremely disappointing. The combination of undercooked burgers and subpar customer service reflects poorly on the establishment's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. I strongly urge management to address these issues promptly and prioritize the health and well-being of their patrons. Until significant improvements are made, I will be taking my business elsewhere. My advice to customers would be to stay way . How can you trust eating there when you can clearly see from the photos that the meat is raw. Yet customer service claim it’s cooked !!  "

"Has a few vegan options including breakfast which I had. Sausage I think is home made, whole thing was nicer than it looked, which does look rather bland I know (see photo), avocado, spinach, anything would rescue it. Hummus was nice also. Prices reasonable enough it is York remember. Has an outdoor garden."

"This vegetarian deli-style caffe offers a range of menu items such as suppening, salads, quiche (also vegan) and snacks the food we ordered was very nice. I personally enjoyed the falafels, tabouli and the sweet potato bore. the rehearsal cake with cardamom and others that we tried at the arrival was also really nice we came to a busy time of the day, to the end of their lunch service, which means that our order was confused twice and they ran out of some things we wanted to try, but it was not too much of a problem. the staff was otherwise very friendly and regularly checked to ensure that everything went well and we enjoy our meal"

"Late breakfast after checking out of our hotel. Should have checked what other people ordered but didn't. Ordered two filled rolls one with bacon and one with sausage. 3 to 4 rashers of bacon and three sausages in big rolls(baps . Struggled to finish them. Friends got a bag to take leftovers away. Very tasty reasonably priced as was the coffee and tea. Well worth a visit. But only order two if your really hungry."
