"Great restaurant with friendly staff and tasty food. Handy place to eat if you're in Chinatown. It gets a mention in Michael Connolly's new book too."

"If you're looking for-funky soul and that New Orleans spirit and environment, as well as the wonderful cooking from that region of the country, plus you enjoy good people, fun and great food that's the place for you. Caveat; I'm a car freak! if you are too prepare for a parking issue during busy periods."

"Friday was my time at Harold and Belle's after reading a little about the history of the restaurant it seemed like a nice little hidden gem in South Los Angeles. I made a reservation in the hopes there wouldn't be a long wait on a Friday night my friend an I were seated promptly. The server was named Maya and upon mentioning it was my time there wasn't much of a welcome as a new customer. Nonetheless after reviewing the menu we made out order. The inside of the restaurant was pretty nice and although there wasn't a very large dining area it SEEMED like more of a nice sit down type restaurant A few minutes after placing our order there was a group of about people that was inconsiderately loud in the dining area. I have been to places where there are groups that are having a good time and can tend to get a bit noisy, however when Maya came to our table and we asked if she minded asking them to lower the noise level we were quite taken aback when the response was a swift and outright "NO". Absolutely zero interest in helping to create an enjoyable and peaceful dining experience for the rest of the customers some around us clearly agitated. With our shocked looks she then said i'll let the manager know and returned to inform us that the managers response was that they are paying customers as well so there was nothing that could be done It was very difficult to even talk with my friend across the table and although I was tempted to just cancel our order and leave, I wanted to see if the food was any good. When the food came it was a decent meal and I just got to it since I couldn't really talk over the loud group Because I want to support businesses that support and employ the south l.a. area I paid my bill and tipped the server (even though I really didn't want to) But I doubt I will be returning to Harold and Belle's as my experience didn't show much in terms of decent customer service from the management down to the staff I encountered."

"We’ve ordered from this place a few times from work and it’s a favorite of my completely non-vegan coworkers. Yes it’s true, I first heard about Souley’s LA location from Kevin Smith saying he ordered it three times within a week. I generally liked everything I’ve tried here. I don’t think of myself as a super “clean eater”, but some of the food here is heavier than my stomach can handle. And I can eat! But don’t let my wimpy stomach experience discourage you, check it out for yourself"

"When I first heard about SFV, I was so excited to try some good ole southern vegan cuisine. It didn't quite live up to my expectations, but it was ok. I have had their food at festivals, so I am unsure if the prices are jacked up to recuperate the expenses of traveling to these festivals or if they are normally that high. As someone previously mentioned, one bowl will run you $15. On my most recent encounter, I got a bowl with jambalaya, 1/2 corn, 1/2 collard greens, and fried chicken They give you a LOT of carbs (jambalaya rice, in my case), and a good amount of veggies. However, I got a small slither of fried chicken which resembled a nugget more than anything. Because I love sauce, I am always annoyed at the drizzle that they put over the bowl. I'd prefer extra. They seemed to have improved on the quality of the collards. Anyone who has a true Southern upbringing can tell you that when picking greens, you toss those bulky stems. On SFV's previous trip to my current city, my greens were 90% stems and I was NOT a happy camper. This time, I had more of the actual collard leaves. The flavor of the jambalaya and the greens were just OK; the jambalaya was borderline bland. Both dishes could use a boost of flavor. The corn and the fried chicken nugget were perfectly seasoned. I have had their Chicken and Waffles, and they were quite yummy, although the waffle could've used some (or some more) vegan butter to enhance its flavor."
