"I had one of the best and most expensive meals of my life at La Fenouilliere. The decor is a bit dated and the prices shocked me for a restaurant in a Best Western. But it turned out to be one of highlights of my stay in Quebec. I had the full meal — entree, soup, main and dessert. Each serving was like a work of art. The service was incredible. There was a complimentary amuse bouche — tuna tartar — that was amazing. I really highly recommend. Just be prepared to splurge."

"Best Halal restaurant in QC. The owner/server is a gem of a person. Extremely kind and friendly. The food prepared is fresh, tasty and decent portions. Prices are good too and there is a big seating area (contrary to no or tight seating options in QC old Town). Totally recommended"

"Have eaten here several times. Was surprised that with a reservation we were still sitting at a booth looking into the kitchen. We could have asked to be moved, but we didn't want to. The waiter was very enthusiastic, but failed to fill glasses of water without being asked. My husband's lasagna was a huge brick in the middle of an unadorned plate. A little salad or something green and crispy would have been nice. Not an à la carte fan, especially when it comes to the price of the main course alone. The room was very dark and a bit noisy. I would ask not to sit in this area another time."

"We tried Madre this summer because we were looking for a BYOB restaurant and my friend loves octopus. We were served the same type of "chinese-looking" rice with our dishes and our main course was pretty good. My friend had the "poulpe" and she enjoyed it. I had the scallops and they were very tasty. I liked this latin themed restaurant but I find it expensive. The decor is modern but rough (does not feel luxurious) and when my dish is 36 $, I expect a bit more bells and whistles (ie. dish presentation, service and decor). If the prices were cheaper I'd return. I'm happy I tried it, I had a good dinner, but I don't think I'll go back."

"8 of us ate here last week. My wife and I were not very hungry, so we decided to share a meal. Owner indicated this would cost $5 (to share). In my 50+ years, I've never seen this before. I would have gone elsewhere but...my friends were ordering. Owner was quite curt about the whole thing. Restaurant was REALLY REALLY hot. I could barely tolerate the heat. They need som A/C or at least a fan to move the air out. There were a few tables outside but not enough for our group. Food was tasty but very small portions. I would not go back."

"So after reading so many gushy reviews of this place, we decided to make it a must-stop on our short Quebec City trip. They don't have a website that I can see nor hours posted - 5:30 pm opening (AND NOT A MINUTE EARLIER) for our Tuesday evening visit. The menu is very compact - a one-sheeter for all appetizers, main courses - oddly called Entrées on the English side, nono this is not the USA :) - and desserts. We started with gaspacho, the soup of the day - perfectly smooth and seasoned. The bouillabaisse has a very flavourful, slightly anisey taste. The raviolis too rich and tasty. My cod and orso with cheese sauce was perfectly cooked. Dessert was the classic rhubard crumble (chilled) and chocolate mousse, both excellent. Very delicious!"

"We enjoyed the thick dark bowls of onion soup on a rainy cold day. The downside was that the bowl was only half filled but the great flavor went a long way. Would go back for the soup. Didn't have a big menu and little charm."
