"Last night for a celebrity dinner and it was super (on a COVID-sensitive wise) oysters were amazing, plus the four of us tried many different dishes, all really good. I am happy that I travel a lot and eat in fine restaurants in many countries...yet john sons stands for ambiente, eating and service."

"Great experience! Some dishes really stand out (below), large portions, good value-for-money. GREAT SERVICE from the staff, especially Elisa thanks! First some deets. Not a huge dining area: about 6 tables seating 2-4 each. If busy, there’s a long bar table facing the open kitchen, seats 6-8. Patio’s a good option this time of year: about 4 tables seating 2-4 each. Order at the counter (for both dine in takeout). They’ll give you a number and bring the food to you when it’s ready. The food! Lobster Roll is the clear go-to: big chunks, fresh, a touch of spice for some kick. Grilled Octopus is a winner but eat it right away or it gets too chewy. For fried fans, go for the Halibut. All fixings are top notch: tartar sauce coleslaw esp. (btw it’s a dry coleslaw, which personally I prefer)."

"I booked a reservation immediately after I saw a post about their outdoor dome dining experience. This was a reservation only experience as they only have 4 domes available (the day we went, one of them was out of service so they were down to 3).The menu is a prix fixe menu so you get to choose from a list of appetizers, mains, and desserts. This one also came with a choice of hot apple cider (non alcoholic) or wine with your meal.Against the Grain is located in the Corus building right next to the water. You can enter the restaurant directly if you walk around to the back of the building on the side that's facing the lake. You can also go through the building and they have a reception desk at the front if you lose your way.We were the first of the dome diners to arrive. We were a tad early so they needed time to set up. This mainly consisted of turning on the heaters in the domes so it wouldn't be freezing when we got inside. There were 2 for each dome.We also got to pick our choice of dome. This did matter since it would affect whether you were on couches or seated at a table. The hostess recommended that we take the couches since we would be seated lower and closer to the heaters. The covering for the domes don't go all the way down to frame so there was definitely some cold winter air coming in. We wore our jackets for the entire meal and they provided blankets for us as well. There is a slight difference in view but only during the daylight hours. You can see towards the lake but the plastic of the dome isn't all that clear so it's not a very clear picture. Also, once it's night time, you can't see much out of your dome other than the twinkle lights around it. Onto the food! I had the cider which was very intense in cinnamon flavour. I usually like cinnamon a lot but this was a bit much for me. It was still great to hold though because it was piping hot. I had the butternut squash soup as an app which was creamy and had an interesting topping of seeds for texture. My main was the seared tuna. This had a lot of Asian flavours at the bottom of the dish. There were more unique ingredients in there like the woodear mushroom and they were huge and not cut up like you'd see in ramen, so it might be a little out there for some folks. The desserts looked great on paper but unfortunately the brownie was not available the day we were there. The strawberry champagne cheesecake turned out to be pretty good but the churros were a bit of a disappointment. They were superrr hard. Tasted okay though. The one thing about this booking sit hat you have to pay up front and with 20% gratuity. If you're a little unsure about this, it's actually warranted since your server has to run in and out between the restaurant and the patio and zip in and out of the dome it's really tricky for them!"

"Pretty standard bar, with drinks and a menu that's typically what you'd findA bit on the pricey side."
