"This place hosted my friend's fundraising event and the upstairs space was big enough for the people that turned out, ~30."

"Having out-of-town guests got us looking for a good breakfast spot, and we decided to try out Mars. Its not overly American (which I'm grateful for), having a very standard menu of breakfasts, omelettes, pancakes, sandwiches, burgers, as well as milkshakes. We all ordered the large breakfast platter (a take on an English breakfast). Wait was a little longer than I generally expect, but the plates came hot and perfectly cooked. Prices were a bit on the high side for what it was, but not outrageous. The atmosphere is fun and retro, and the staff are okay. Will likely return."

"This is my second ever review on trip advisor as I rarely have anything more to add than the other author's of posts however, on this occasion, it felt only right as anyone living or travelling to Toronto should really visit this restaurant. Here is why:1) The service - From the moment we entered there was a charm about this place with each waiter having their own character to play in this wonderfully orchestrated experience which you would usually call dinner. This is just the warm up until you meet the owner Michele and his wife Margi who are the consummate restauranteurs paying attention to every detail of the customer's and providing light (and sometimes even hilarious) entertainment, in the form of conversation, jokes and anecdotes. There is a reason they named the place Carisma. 2) The food - I have personally eaten at some of the best restaurants in London (where I live) and in the world, many of which have been awarded one or more Michelin stars, however, the quality of food I tasted at Carisma was unparalleled. The Zucchini Florets (only in season for two weeks I believe) was a dish I will remember forever (I hope) as well as the white truffle pasta. In addition, the accommodation to our dietary requirements and the adapting of portion sizes enabling us to try more options on the menu was just another example of the nature of this restaurant. 3) The wine - there are over 200 bottles and an extensive list by the glass so have fun trying to get through that lot. It is clearly a passion of Michele's to drink great wine and this is the, as it should be, the reason for such an epic wine list. As some other writers on Tripadvisor have mentioned, we went back a second time during our six night stay in Toronto where we had an excellent Brunello and divine food created by the hands of chef Salvatore from Naples (who was so Italian we could only communicate through sign language) that I would have to say that this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in the world. This place is a treat and the people behind it are an example of how the restaurant business should run. It would be a mistake to miss it."

"Had Dinner with another couple on a Tuesday night at 7:00 pmComfortable seating areas, with combination of chairs and benchesHigh naked walls (without artwork) contributed to a noisy environment. Some background music made it worst as the place filled up and people talked louder. and louder. Waitress was new to Canada from England, was pleasant, but not experienced and overwhelmed by the group. A single bartender helped out at times by delivering baskets of bread, but beyond that she was alone.Menu was limited but provided options for all palettesThere were 20 people in the room at peak of 7:30, and place was only 2/3 full.Service was very slow. in part because of inexperienced and overwhelmed waitress and in part because the chef/cook seemed to prepare a single item at a time.Drink list was long and extensive but didn't include Non-Alcoholic beer, Lime Cordial for Soda Water etc.Dinner arrived in a random almost in reverse alphabetic order. One couple ordered A House Salad (please bring this first. it arrived last) and 3 appetizers (Shrimp, Scallops, TarTar) The appies were great, the salad was a handful of greens on a plate and very uninspiring for $9These arrived long before the other couple's order. In fact they were finished eating (because the warm stuff was going to get cold). before the other couple's order arrived.Other couple ordered Fried Brussell Sprouts (delicious and nutty but very salty/Mussels (which were gritty and hadn't been cleaned properly) and the Beef Ribs. The Beef Ribs arrived 40 minutes after the TarTar which arrived first. The ribs were tasty but salty, the potatoes were delicous but salty and the asparagus was woody.Waitress was so overwhelmed that getting drink refills was a challengeService levels turned this evening into an awkward experience with 4 people who were sitting at the same table eating in 4 different sessions. If you are going alone or sharing a plate with another, then you might get to eat a 'normal dinner'. Else you're likely to experience a tasting session like a trip to Costco, with samples available in sporadic intervals. smile*I will not be returning to this place."
