"One of the best Thai places in durham hands down! this place is located in ajax in a plaza that has many other outlet shops. great if they want to go for a little shopping and then they go to purple blase to eat or drink something. I am often at this place and the standard and quality has grown enormously in recent years. they have a large selection of food from main dishes, appetizers, maishunde to drinks such as blase tee etc. we have the two Thai basilikum roast chicken rice. they asked us to evaluate the fancy level on a scale of 0–5. I am a lover who hurdles so flat 5 was just the right amount of seasoned. the dishes tasted amazing. we also have the chef special thai basilikum, which is different from the thai basilikum rice. the cook special comes with white jasmine rice, huhn and a whole lot sweet, which complements the rest of the dishes very well. the cook special also includes a dose pop. Finally we have the bark thai basilikum fried rice. it was also really good, but in comparison to the hen I would order the hen again. I felt that the bark was a little too sweet compared to the rest of the teller. overall, eating was amazing and definitely returning. I would highly recommend ordering the people before the time as they are very busy and can take a lot of time to prepare the dishes even if their order is small. food prices have risen in recent years, but this is expected with the rest of the economy. Nevertheless, for the amount of food they receive, the price is exactly right. the customer service is excellent and the personal is very friendly. I would recommend to everyone to check this place and I myself will come back in any case."

"I have been here several times for quick meetings over coffee and a muffin and always found it satisfactory (not outstanding) if pricy as compared to noisier venues like Tim's. However, today's visit was a bust. They no longer have muffins, only large cookies and mediocre tea biscuits (scones). The coffee was overly strong and almost cold.However, there were several staff behind the counter (more than on any previous visits), and it did look as though a husband and wife were in evidence, whom I took to be new owners (?). If this is the case, I trust they will settle down and up their game before my next visit (I will watch this site for new intelligence on this subject).Furthermore, I found that the quality did not match the fancy pricing by a long stretch."

"Worried about catching COVID then avoid The Portly Piper. We of us) sat at a table overlooking the entrance and watched dozens of people pour into the place with no contact name taken nor was their ID checked. It was a hit and...miss effort! I mentioned all of this to owner who said he would talk to his staff. Wake-Up idiot!! This virus has been with us for almost years, get with the program or loose your liquor license. We spoke with our server who was mortified. I suspect she will look for another job. It's places like this one that are responsible for all bars/restaurants being shuttered again! To repeat, avoid this place like the plague...unless you want it!!"

"Service, food and value were excellent. However there was a large group of customers that were very rowdy. They kept challenging each other to arm wrestling contests. My wife and I found this very distracting and it detracted from our overall experience. When we mentioned this to the staff we were told that these patrons would be leaving soon."
