"Only a few miles from the fox and hounds we have eaten here at numerous occasions and last night, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, visited at the rande of the moment around 6.15 clock, when we were happy, the last available table. when we arrived, a phone call was recommended that they were fully booked, and others who went on the off channels were informed, it would be a long wait time if they decided to stay. it was pleasant to see that they were busy. we were not disappointed. an appetizer, chicken liver with brown toast and cumberland sauce, was plentiful and good quality. an appetizer (the one smaller part than a proposed appetizer) made of olive, homous and dipping bread was once again excellent and came with sufficient fresh French brot, which one would easily have divided between two. the menu is extensive and the two most important courses were selected from high quality, generous portions and were drilled hot. we chose slow frying gravy that arrived with sage kartoffeln, kohl and speck and zider gravy, and was error-free. the mint and swirl sword, which accompanied the perfectly boiled lamb with creamy maic and sweet, was not available, but the rosemary and red wine substitute was a perfect substitute. against all chances we have gone with a pudding! a warm chocolate brew, accompanied by vanilleeis; and a honeycomb cake (of particularly generous portion but slightly in texture) with a skyberry sauce rounded a perfect meal, and all accompanied, of course by a few pints of very well kept local brewed beer."

"This is an idyllic, quirky little pub with great views, great food and a wonderfully welcoming host. We were stuck in the traffic jam on the A303 coming back from Glastonbury, and decided to turn off and find somewhere to eat .. after two abortive stops, we called the Rainbow and he checked how many of us there were and said he could accomodate us. Which ended up being extremely kind of him, since they were short staffed that day. It is very much a family run place, but that's much of its charm we couldn't think of a nicer spot to just relax and get away from the traffic surrounded by flowers, shrubs and a gorgeous lawn being mowed by the cutest little robot mower that fascinated the few dogs that arrived. The food was great, the host couldn't have been more helpful we geniunely will make a point to stop here again when we're travelling down to Somerset or Devon, or on the way back. "I love the fact I can order a kebab to be delivered for £10. No minimum order, big portions, delicious food and great service. A great treat at the end of the month when I’m a widowed mother of two girls and short on funds!! Thank you for letting me treat myself without great expense without any guilt. "Visiting Devizes and Caen Hill locks with friends, the Black Swan was recommended for lunch. Very friendly and attentive staff, the food was well cooked and tasty, a burger is not normally my first choice but, it was probably the best burger I have tasted."

"Head chef, Nick Oborne, has brought his love of fire roasted cooking to this delightful country pub. If you book the Chef’s table, four of you can watch the master calmly at work and see your meat or fish cooked from scratch. To accompany it is a selection of glorious vegetable dishes. Imaginative, healthy and tasty. The menu offers a great selection for vegetarian, dairy and gluten free eaters and is very competitively priced. This was our second visit and it didn’t disappoint."
