"Salt Sping has more places to eat per capita than any place I know, at least as far as permanent residents go. And they've all been thoroughly reviewed, except this place, so when my wife and I had to come to SS (from Brentwood Bay) for a day I figured we'd give it a go, so others would have more than one opinion to go on. All I can figure is that SS residents are keeping it a secret. It's in the clubhouse of the local golf club, about two minutes out of Ganges. Lots of parking, a large, slightly tired room that seats 50, so you're not crowded. Take an table away from the windows, and no-one will hea a word you say. Nice views of the golf course, and a covered deck that seats at least 50. The waitress said the deck is usually full in the summer. Friendly waitress, very fast service (but there were only eight other customers on the February Wednesday we were there). Good coffee, typical menu - ten kinds of burger, soups, salads, all sorts of starters, lots of varieties of (small only) pizza. Four mains for dinner: fish and chips, salmon, ribs, mussels (local, I imagine, and SS has great mussels), and pasta. Mary had fish and chips, and said it was excellent. The bite she allowed me proved her right - old fashioned dark batter, very crispy, not at all oily. Tender fish, cooked just right. One of the best I've ever had. Nice slaw, too, with a tangy vinagrette. I had a bacon/blue cheese burger, and the only flaw was that the bacon was cooked crisp and crumbled, whereas I like bacon limp. I think most people would think this burger excellent. It was good enought that I ate it all instead of taking some home, and I ate all the green salad as well, made with several kinds of lettuce and other stuff. I was full, and made the mistake of trying one of Mary's fries, which she had virtuously refrained from finishing. Next thing I knew I'd eaten them all, and could hardly move. Very small wine list, with house red and white at $23/litre, pretty good in B.C Several nice draughts at $6/pint, very good price. I don't know how busy this place is in summer, but if I were you I'd drive through Ganges and give it a shot. I bet lunch on the deck with a pint on a nice day would be close to heaven. Burger, fish and chips, two coffees with refills, $33 including tax. Good value. We'll be back, whether we have reason to visit the Island or not."
