"The first impression at the arrival was disappointing: the dame at the reception did not seem too happy to see us even though we had a table reserved, or at least it did not show it. the dining room is beautiful, the rôtissoire beautiful and the whole restaurant full. light with a mix of modern and old styles. the Tarte-Fambée was great in the did: freshly prepared and cooked in many times that we could see from our table. excellent calf meat, perfectly cooked and very delicate and tasty. the T-bone was generous and okay, nothing extraordinary unfortunately. very decent weinliste. good desserts. toilets clean. I am convinced that these young can make better with a warmer attitude towards customers."

"We went into this place looking for breakfast. When we got into the restaurant, the lady asked what we wanted and we said breakfast. We were waiting for the menu/carte to choose but instead she started preparing things such as coffee, cheeses, hams, jams, bread,...honey, iogur, orange juice... We were hungry and we do not speak French so we thought it was ok. The food was good and surprisingly, after all the food we ate, we only paid 10 euros each. We were expecting something more expensive. So overall it was a nice experience, altought it would have been better if we would have received some info beforehand. Also, the toilet is outdoors, so get your jacket if you need to go!"

"We had a quick stop for coffee and some sweet sancks. 4 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby. We had to leave the stroller outside, it appears this is common to most establishments in alsatic villages, due to lack of space. I appreciated that they...offered a lock so we can feel comfortable leaving the stroller outside. Children were ok there, we even found a baby changing station there. Staff was friendly and kind, their English are poor however. My mother's tarte was very nice. I was greatly disappointed by my crepe, the dough was not warm (felt room temperature to slightly cold) and at parts of it it felt dry/hard. I am confident that it was not instantly prepared and I had my father (who speaks French) to make the complaint (in French) to the polite waitress. I did not receive any feedback from the house, unfortunately. I hope this was an accidental event and not an attempt to use a portion prepared from earlier in the morning, which is why rated it with 3 stars and not 2."

"When I last visited the Caveau in 2009, it was owned by different people and was much more in the higher end, steak frites/local cuisine, model. It is a very different place now and I have to say that I like it. Previously, the restaurant was very dark and now it is well lit and inviting. It is now a much more casual place locals were there in shorts, etc. There are now lighter menu options and a lot of pizza choices, focusing on the local version, flammkuchen. Steak frites is gone but the local specialties are still here. And they are also very good. As has been previously stated in reviews, English was not spoken here the night I visited. Neither was Alsatian. This could have have been a deal breaker, as I can understand some French but my accent is embarrassing to all involved. But the waiter invited me in speaking French and seated me with a German/English menu. I ordered two traditional items, Ham and Gruyère Salad and the choucroute garni sour kraut with 5 kinds of sausage and smoked pork with a flask of the local Riesling. Very old school. Despite the German/English menu, I ordered the items by their Alsatian names which elicited a short snort from the young waiter.I wasn 't sure what that was going to translate into. But the food arrived quickly and the service was great. Just as I elected to receive the check, a number of people came into the restaurant and sat down. The waiter acknowledged my request and I could tell by the look on his face I might not get my check right away. He came back out of the kitchen and placed a small glass snifter in front of me and explained to me in French that the item was on the house. He then went to seat the people who had just come in. The snifter held a serving of ice cold marc de Gewurztraminer. This is a grappa like liquor made from the skins of the local Gewurztraminer grape after they are pressed for wine. And it doesn 't get any more old school Alsace. Someone who ordered what I had for dinner would clearly appreciate this. By the time I was finished with my after dinner drink, the new crowd was seated and had their orders taken and I could now pay. I greatly appreciated the young waiter 's thoughtfulness not only inviting in a non French speaker, but also in comping me as he got busy and the empathy in bringing the old dude something very traditional. And the food was very good."

"After so many lunches and dinners with foie gras, which we loved in Alsace, it was so beautiful to get an Asian dinner as well as they hope to get in kyoto! the chawanmushi was as good as I had in okinawa; others...Tishes were as authentic. husband and wife (husband 20 years in kyoto and woman from hiroshima) were great hostes in their very authentic Alsace home."
