"Went to Steak on stones with pals tonight to take on the 22 quid for 3 course menu they've ran in January. Starter was soup of the day (Cauliflower) then Sirloin with chips and choice of sauce (peppercorn) and then donut and dipping sauce to finish. There was not even a glimmer of hope to switch the soup for a real' starter. I always find soup a waste of a first course...the only other option was a piece of bread for 1.50. Eh?! Steak was good, chups good, sauce...cold. donuts were quite tough and the jam was the saviour. Chocolate dipper was like burnt chocolate. Cocktails weren't up to much either. "The staff is always friendly and helpful. Eating is always nice. 5 minutes walk from the edinburgh playhouse. that makes it perfect for us. we had appetizers of broccoli stilton suppe and brushed mushrooms. the suppe came with 3 large slices of sourdough bread and was really nice. the mushrooms were 3 massive pieces, over the length of my hand, served with a beautiful mayo dip and had a tomatensalat. the mushrooms were crispy and damp and were really nice. the most important of tequila mocking dog and fish and chips. the dog was great, but was not in sauce as claimed, but was nice together with fries. the fish was as always very large. beautiful crispy teig and flock fish were excellent. the chips were nice. had a part of the two-rings, which were as usual very large and crisp. we look forward to our next visit."

"Wings, Edinburgh 31 July 2015 A slight change of pace for Food club, we took a step away from the standard 3 course meal and took a satisfying leap back to a simpler time. We wandered up to the Mile from Waverley and meandered through the closes until we found our destination. Just off the royal mile we found our way inside and were seated at our table. You very quickly realised that each table had a theme and we were sat on 2 put together. The tattoo table and the ‘Where’s Wally’ table…. top entertainment for gentleman such as ourselves. The only sour point was that we were not on the Jurassic Park table due to it not seating 7 people, but for a T-Rex smashing through the wall I’d have happily sat on someone’s lap. I also noticed the menu had a Poke Ball on it, if there is a Pokémon Table that I missed, well quite frankly I might freak out. Wings Pokémon is like Peas carrots. We got a round of beers in and perused the mouth-watering menu. There were no prices so we asked the waitress what the etiquette would be for the evening, when she advised it was £3.50 for 6 wings and order as you like, all etiquette went out the window we darted back to the menu. The only discussion was how many do we order up front, just 1 was out of the question so most opted for 3, some had 2 and others had 4. In hindsight I’d probably say 2 was best because they are very fast with service and in order to keep the wings as hot possible, this was the best option. We washed them down with beers and ordered chunky chips to mop up the saucy goodness left behind. I’m not sure how many flavours they had but there is literally something for everyone and more. You could choose from dry rubs, Spice, BBQ sauces, Chipotle Sauces, Ranch, Cheese, Alcohol…. You get the idea. I believe there is one that requires a disclaimer and a few do like a bit o’ spice but that was maybe a step too far on this particular occasion. The highest we dared was a level 4 heat, I tried it on a chip and nearly lost my face but for those of you love that burn, it was very tasty… or so I was told. Between us we devoured 174 wings, which if you ask our friend Fraser, “That’s over 200 chickens…..” Someone clearly forgot their abacus that night. We filled the pail with bones and looked at each other with a certain look accomplishment. We picked the bones from loads of the varieties and flavours and every one of them was an absolute delight. I couldn’t recommend just one and urge you to get a good mix. Maybe the ‘New Worlder’. Maple BBQ dill with bacon bits…. It was groin grabbingly transcendent. Someone from the table also shouted “I AM SPARTACUS” we are still unsure if he was approving of the flavoured wings or just making a bold statement. The evening was as always filled with laughs and the busy restaurant had a great atmosphere, and being so enclosed this was enhanced. More beers were ordered to finishing off the evening before we slowly descended down the Royal Mile back to Waverley. Can’t praise this place enough, Friendly staff, phenomenal wings and brilliant value. If you’re looking for a bite during the festival, Christmas shopping or even cause you just want some damn good Wings, get yourself here immediately. Massive Thank you from all at Food Club, That was majestic."

"Booked a table at the Amber rose for my birthday drinks payed £40 ahead which I got back but when we sat down (we had arrived early) were approach by one of the staff to say he will immediately give our table away if the party doesn’t arrive. Not even giving the chance for people to be there since we were actually early. Thankfully everyone did arrive and I’m sure they got lots of money from us. We were just treated like a number and nothing more. Will not be back in a hurry."
