"Whenever we have a special occasion and want a large joint I will always go to Waghornes as the meat is consistently excellent, well aged, super tender and packed with flavour. The team in the shop are also very enthusiastic about their meat and happy to spend time explaining unusual cuts or suggesting different cooking techniques. I've tried all the butchers in the area; Cheltenham, Winchcombe, Bishop's Cleeve, Broadway and further across to Northleach, but for me, Waghornes is the best. Yep, you will pay a bit more for your meat here but the difference is worth it. Roast sirloin tonight can't wait."

"We had a gorgeous lunch at The Butchers on our last day in Stow on the Wold. The menu was fantastic as it catered for both fish lovers and meat people. I had the chilli and crab spaghetti which was full of flavour and not sparse on the ingredients. My fiancé had the roast which featured a Yorkshire pudding the size of his head and roast beef which was ridiculously soft. We had amazing desserts and cocktails to go with it and the staff were very friendly. It was probably the nicest meal on our trip and we would definitely go back."

"We arrived at 5pm for tea and had a lovely meal, the chicken and bacon with the melt was cooked to perfection, not dried out and covered in cheese to hide the fact that it's overcooked! The ribs and chicken breast with chicken wings etc.. etc... was also great...especially when Philomena brought me 3 lemon wipes to clean up! The churros sundae was great, authentic, warm and crispy churros almost a foot long with fudge brownie, ice cream and cream, and chocolate sauce! Hubby hardly ever has a pud but the Meal Deal, and the fact it was our anniversary, made it an option, so why not...Cheesecake one night was eaten and enjoyed, but the Sticky toffee pudding and custard silenced him for a good 10 minutes! I have to say that the service was wonderful, with Philomena at tea, and the smiling young lady at breakfast, made us feel valued as guests and not an imposition, especially when even though she was busy, we were brought 2 glasses of water, ice and lemon as soon as I said I was thirsty. When we come to Cheltenham again, hopefully in April, we will be back! Maggiex"

"Such a lovely place to eat! We came here twice recently whilst away visiting the Cotswolds. Firstly, we went on Wednesday burger night and it was amazing. Then we went again on Friday for pizza night. All the food is fresh and homemade. The burgers were huge and quality meat, and the pizzas were stone baked. The Royal was also really clean and safe in terms of covid 19. Would highly recommend this place!"
