"Visited the restaurant for local cuisine and had lunch overlooking the river. The food was exquisite and at a very low price. The staff were very helpful and spoke English. Definitely recommend to other people visiting Amarante."

"We went for a late lunch on a Sunday. My wife had roast chicken and a glass of wine whilst I had veal and a beer. Both came with loads of roast potatoes, a large dish of rice and another dish of salad. We'd have happily shared one meal, the portions were so generous. And all for just 21 euros. A bargain by any standards. It's not stylish more of a family run restaurant, but the meal was excellent."

"I am loathe to give anything even remotely connected with Casa da Calcada anything less than 5 stars but I feel that the cheaper retaurant needs a little work. I think it is a great idea to offer an alternative to Largo do Paco but there are still some teething issues such as the wine list being the same as that of a Michelin Starred restaurant, and the waiting staff having to fetch everything from elsewhere. The food was more than acceptable and we ordered a bottle of the Portal da Calcada which we thnk was excellent value for money (considering the setting)."
