"Dropped into Grantham hungry on a Sunday morning on a long drive up the A1, and couldn 't find anywhere open then slammed on the brakes driving past COSY ORNER CAFE (they may have lost a C somewhere) which didn 't look up to much, but had an Open sign in the window. The decor is, well 1950s boarding house parlour might be the nice way to put it not exactly appealing, but unpretentious and yes, in its own way cosy. Tables and chairs are solid and uncrowded. A few other customers in already, who looked up, but didn 't start muttering or staring. The waitress who emerged from some other room arrived quickly and was bright and friendly: so far, so good. To be honest, we had mainly called in to use the toilets and get a cup of tea, but it felt worth taking a gamble on the food. The gamble paid off. I ordered a full English (reasonably priced at about £6 including extra toast) noted that the menu (which is all solid traditional British fare) specifically invites customers to request any substitutions that they wish and the cafe will try to accommodate 2 bacon, 2 sausage, fried egg, beans, mushrooms, fried bread. My wife wasn 't going to eat but saw a fellow customer being served a roast dinner (at 10.30am) and decided to go for that several large slices of roast beef (nicely browned, none of yer fancy continental pink), roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, yorkshire pudding, carrots and leek £6. We shared an enormous pot of tea (later topped up with hot water on request). So what? Well, the reason I am bothering to enter this cafe 's details on Tripadvisor and write this review is that this was, without exaggeration, one of the best meals I have ever eaten out of the house. The food is absolutely first rate top ingredients, well cooked and presented, served with genuine hospitality. This appears to be a family run business, reflected in the quality of food and service. Next time I am driving down the A1 I will definitely be turning off at Grantham."

"Sunday lunch for 4. Great choice of roasts. Served piping hot. Good to find a pub serving Sunday lunch as your mum would have cooked it. None of the pretentious serving the meat on a platter or stacking layers. Reasonably priced, generous portions, good honest pub grub. Reasonably priced. Loved it."

"We were staying in an Airbnb 20 yards over the road from this wonderful village pub in Greatford. How lucky were we?! A roaring fire and cheery, ‘hello’, greeted us as we walked through the door. What a wonderful local this would be! Good beer choices and lovely staff. The burgers we had were amazing…too good, we couldn’t eat it all as the portion sizes were so generous. We will certainly be back if we were staying in the area again. Finally a big thank you to Steven. I left my scarf in the pub and he kindly sent it back to me and refused to accept any money for postage…..what a great chap! Thank you!"

"Visited for a light bite and a pint of beer and a glass of wine. Firstly, the Adnams Broadside was at a correct temperature and taste. I ordered a 'rare ' beef sandwich with horseradish and my wife ordered the smoked salmon sandwich. Both served to perfection. The roast beef was both rare, tender and generous. The York Bar is a cosy, traditional room and enhanced with recently installed Christmas decorations at the start of the festive season. The final price, not over expensive for the experience. Over more than twenty years, we have never been let down with our visits to the George whatever the occasion including traditional lunches and weddings. Thank you once again!"

"Elegant, spacious wine bar. Very friendly, welcoming staff and great service. I had the most beautiful, individual steak and ale pie. This was served with a jug of gravy, buttery mash and a lovely selection of seasonal veg. The veg were beautifully cooked to retain both colour texture. I then followed with the most delicious dessert I have ever had. Honeycomb parfait served with pistachio brittle and boozy cherries. It was sublime."
