"Restaurant and interior looks promising. The descriptions on the menu sound tempting. It is also located in a hip and grungy neighourhood which should all be a recipe for a good meal and night out. Unfortunately the food disappoints. The miso cod was dry and it seems like miso paste was just pasted on top of a somewhat dry fish. Presentation was surely nice but it has to taste nice too. At this price point underwhelming. The rice was also dry and not Japanese rice. Again at this price point of the restaurant one could expect higher quality. So overall not very exciting. In general, Japanese restaurants in Zurich are nothing to write home about. At Ginger in Seefeld most of the sushi rolls are pre made, Bimi opposite is also a bit bland for the price. Haven't tried Hato yet but their pricing is also very aspirational. I have lived in Tokyo and NY - so I have a basic idea what good Japanese food looks like - even overseas. This did not hit the mark, sorry."

"Going to Ikoo is a special treat for someone who loves Japanese food but lives on a student budget. While the appetizers, side dishes and drinks are more on the expensive side, the main courses are relatively cheap. the portions are generous and filling. there is quite a variety on offer considering the small size of the restaurant.As someone who is continuously disappointed at the meagre vegetarian selections in Japanese restaurants in Zurich, i really appreciate the options available at Ikoo. while the meals are no match for the stuff you get in Japan, at least the vegetarian dishes really make it up for me. i'm particularly infatuated by the vegetarian tan-tan mien, something that is rarely an option in Japan itself.The downside is of course the small size of the restaurant. I do not recommend spontaneous visits during lunch or evening hours without prior reservation. The service is quite informal and thus homely, the staff friendly."

"Das Ooki ist immer wieder gut für ein spontanes, japanisches Essen ausserhalb von Sushi und Co. Das Lokal ist klein, Reservation übers Wochenende zu empfehlen. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Dem Gast wird ganz unzürcherisch viel Aufmerksamkeit zuteil. Die Essensauswahl ist sehr gut; Fisch, Fleisch und Gemüse ist in verschiedenen Variationen erhältlich. Die Karte ist wie in Japan üblich von hinten nach vorne zu lesen. Das Ambiente ist schlicht in Holz und mit wenig unnötiger Deko gehalten. Das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis ist vorbildlich."

"I tried this place for the first time since I tried to go many times in the past months but it was very difficult to book. The place is very small. You are sitting basically together with the people at the near table. The food...was very good, fresh and well prepared. The staff very nice. The price quite high. Ok it’s sushi, it’s Zürich, but compared with similar places with the same quality I found it too expensive. For example the desserts are definitely overpriced. Overall good experience but considering how difficult is to book a table and the quality/price ratio I am not sure if I’d go back."

"We were several times in this restaurant and always satisfied, but today was very disappointing. We have the Tayo record to share the expensive. First of all, the size of sushi was not as usual, looked like they just put the rest on the plate, but okay. The salmon in the Sashimi was not fresh, it looked like it was hours on the air, so not fresh, it was even dark on the side (light gray brown). I called waiters and showed him. He took the plate away, then came back and said that salmon was fresh and the color of nori came, he also said that they do not themselves sushi and they are delivered by another supplier. He also told me that if I want to eat freshly made sushi, I better go to Sushi Bar elsewhere... he mentioned that this is not the first time when people complain and he will continue my complaint to the supplier... well, we should not pay for sushi and was discount for the parking lot, but nevertheless it was a greatest disappointment. I don't think I'll go back there and I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone."

"Very pricy at dinner .... lunch at Hato is extremely cheap in comparison to dinner. The quality of food is really good, dishes to be shared is recommended. Service is nice and professional, the wine list can clearly be improved as the selection is a little bit thin.Hato is clearly one of the top 3 in Japanese/ Asian restaurants in Zürich, but comes at a price..."
