"I popped into Kyoto a few weeks ago with a friend and they were pretty busy. They seem to have an enormous pick up business so much so that the sushi bar is completely unavailable to sit at and is dominated by bags and to go orders. This is a bummer because it's such a great spot to sit and watch the chefs work. We were seated in the back at an uncomfortable table right near the rest room and it was unpleasant; it also didn't seem clean and updated very tired especially with the sushi bar being overrun by the take out business. It was a bit uncomfortable and just didn't seem like the best choice for us so we moved on. This particular rating is based only on the atmosphere/ambience so I haven't had the food in a few months. The food is mid range and what I would expect from an average sushi bar. I think basic expectations are fulfilled. But if you're looking for that great sushi bar experience that is clean, crisp and continuous I would look elsewhere. We had to wait about 10 minutes (this is no exaggeration) while the hostess was on the phone as well. I think they are just managing way too many to go orders to focus properly on their clientele which may need in person service."

"Ichiban has decent lunch specials and quality fish. The service staff was a little overworked, causing service to be slow. However, our waiter was friendly, and my group wasn't in a hurry, so we didn't mind. But I would not recommend heading in for a quick bite. I would eat here again if I return and I'm not grabbing grub on State street."
