"Returning after an absence of 18 months, I was not the least bit disappointed. I rate about one in ten of the restaurants I review on this site as a five. O Tipico deserves the rating. The establishment represents small city Portuguese traditional cooking, ambiance, and hospitality at its best. The daily menu offer more than the usual number of choices. So far, everything I've tasted has been excellent. The Sopa Lavrador with which I began today's lunch was perhaps the best vegetable based soup I can remember eating. The preparation of the polvo lagareiro was exactly perfect. The wine list remains vast for a small city restaurant. As I dined on my own this trip, I wanted only a half-size bottle of white. Unlike most restaurants, there still was a more than adequate selection of wines from quite a few regions to choose from. You will pay a bit more here than in many other places, but it's worth it. I took the narrow gauge train from Aveiro to Águeda specifically to eat here. The meal was well worth the half hour each way on the train and the ten-minute walk from the station."

"The restaurant is away from the main square and tourist route but well worth seeking out. The food was excellent and portions are big. We had as main courses Rojoes (pork) and Vitela (calf). The Vitela was probably the best vitela meat I haver had, it was very well cooked, tender, juice and tasty. They might have a different dish of the day. I have heard the bacalhau (codfish) is also good. The house red wine is ok. The place is small, so you should book in advance or go before the rush hours. Furthermore you can literally sit in the kitchen and watch the dishes being cooked. If you want to experience really typical food and mix with locals I highly recommend this place."
