"Looking for an early dinner in Port Elgin, we stopped by the Woodpecker for a bite. The place was empty (it was Wednesday after all), but when we got upstairs, there were Reserved cards on many of the tables. By the time we left, the place was packed! And no wonder!The hosts are new owners of the restaurant and are tasked with improving an already successful eatery. They seem to intuitively understand fine dining and hospitality: they get it. In addition to dinner seating on the second floor, they serve lunch on the first floor and have a large deck/patio off the dining lounge.The menu has good options for every taste and the wine list has a good variety of new and old-world wines at quite reasonable prices.I ordered the Salmon special while my companion chose the Beef Tenderloin. Presentation was lovely and the proteins were perfectly prepared. A special shout-out to the crispy baked prosciutto on the salads - a perfect touch. Excellent service rounded out a very nice evening.We'll certainly return the next time we're in Port Elgin."

"After an enjoyable bike ride from Southampton, we arrived hungry to Port. It was a great choice to stop at Wismer House for lunch. Great shady spot on the patio, friendly staff and tasty food options. We'll be back."

"Stopped for breakfast recently. I had the Eggs Benedict Skillet which featured eggs Benedict over fried potatoes and peameal bacon. The eggs were fine but the potatoes appeared deep fried and there was an aftertaste to the bacon...the toast was good. I ate less than...half of the breakfast. The other person I was with wanted just pancakes...no such luck. So they had 2 waffles (no sure if they were made on site or out of a box). It had to be the children's size for $5.00 and no beverage. Next time I guess we'll shop around."

"We were staying with friends in their cottage for the week and we told them about Aunt Mabel's, not believing they had never been there before . We had been bragging about the food . We went for supper . The restaurant was full ,as usual which we took to be a good sign, since its been over a year since we were there last . Our server was super, told us the days specials and said the had a new chef, so the food was " amazing " .I ordered the Salisbury steak, described as " we start with the leanest beef and add our own special seasonings. " or words to that effect . our friends ordered a variety of items . When the meal came, the freshest of meat was actually two charred hamburger patties, ( the petal shaped burgers we buy at M and M . a scoop of mashed potato so dense it was like stucco, and just as tasteless . So, So disappointed with the food this time . Especially since we recommended it to other people . We spoke to some other people in the parking lot before we left to go back to Sauble Beach and the cottage . They were also not happy with the meals they had ordered . The new chef isn't going to help, if he serves meals like t he one I had. The gentleman we were speaking to had ordered the rotisserie chicken dinner and waited 25 minutes before the server came back to tell him they were out of chicken . He wasn't at all happy . As good as it was ,last time, is as bad as it was this time . Our friends meals were described as " ok " . odd soups, cream of dill pickle ? Not sure we would drive back from Cambridge again ."

"WOW, such an incredible dinner at Allan's this weekend and we're still talking about how great our food was. We had the Cuban pork sandwich, beef dip and shrimp fettuccine all which we look forward to having again. If that wasn't enough, the service was excellent from start to finish from the entire team. Looking forward to becoming regulars and working our way through the menu!"
