"This restaurant is not as popular as the other Vietnamese restaurant in Market Square. It only seems to fill up when the other restaurant has too long a queue to get in. In fourteen years I have only on a handful of occasions seen a...queue at this restaurant, but if I walk past the other one at lunch or dinner time it usually has a queue. This place is more expensive and the food quality is less consistent. Our family has dined at both numerous times over the past decade. I recently had my worst experience at this restaurant. The satay chicken skewers were dry and hard, I don’t think they had been freshly cooked. The meat was almost as hard as the wooden skewer it was served on. This was disappointing because they are usually not that bad at all. The other elements of the meal were quite good. The service is consistently very good. I will return one day, but for now I have been put off"

"We live only a short walk from all of the Sunnybank shopping centres and have eaten at dozens of restaurants scores of times over 36 years. At least twice per week we stroll to Market Square for an evening meal and over the past 6-12 months have chosen Taste Gallery as our favourite. There is something special about being greeted by name and with a smile by several of the staff, especially one newer manager Eric. if only more local restaurants realised the value of trying to get to know regular customers. To be fair, some of the wait staff do have some problems with English but it has never been more than a small inconvenience and any miscommunication is always quickly corrected with a smile. The decor is pleasant but with not particularly comfortable low chairs at individual tables or rigid seating at a row of upright booths down one wall, but there is so much more room between tables than any other local eatery. We actually enjoy the continuous Chinese food preparation videos on two large wall screens with pleasant background music, or the large fish (future meals) in the two aquaria. However, it is the food we keep returning for. In my opinion the front-of-house yum cha kitchen makes the best xiao long bao (steamed soup dumplings) in Brisbane. The main kitchen never fails to supply an excellent authentic Chinese dish of our choice. Prices seem to be quite reasonable and two can eat well for around $35-$50. Did I mention the 2-for-1 deal with bottles of excellent Tsingtao beer? That's all I have time to report because we are about to head up to Taste Gallery right now for our early Wednesday evening meal."

"20 July 2017<br/ <br/ After planning to dine at Tobaki Korean BBQ my brother-in-law says he would prefer to dine at Taste of Penang which is 20 metres away. We sit at a vacant table and I order five dishes to try. <br/ <br/ It is quite busy tonight and it is 30 minutes before the Har Mee (Prawn Noodle) and Char Kueh Teow are served. Unlike my last meal here, the Har Mee serving is once again a 'full ' bowl of noodles. Rating: 4.5/5.0 <br/ The Char Kueh Teow serving is 30% larger than last month 's serving. And the noodles are delicious with the fragrant 'wok hei ' aroma. <br/ Rating: 5.0/5.0<br/ The Lobak tonight is the most authentic I have tasted in Brisbane. <br/ Rating: 4.5/5.0<br/ The Chicken Satay is well seasoned and is tender and flavoursome and complemented with a delicious peanut sauce. <br/ Rating: 4.5/5.0<br/ The Curry Chicken Potato Curry Puffs are well made and flavoursome. Problem is there was no chicken but heaps of potato in the filling.<br/ Rating: 3.5/5.0<br/ <br/ Overall a most satisfying $51 meal for two people. I ask Management to maintain a decent serving size if you would like to retain your regular customers. The overall rating increases from 4.0 to 4.50/5.00<br/ <br/ <br/ Mid-June 2017<br/ <br/ It 's been six months since my last visit to Taste of Penang. Today being Brisbane 's third consecutive cold wet day I wanted my Mum to get out of the house and have a walkabout. So we arrived at 12.30pm and it was obvious the rain was keeping diners away as only half the tables were occupied. <br/ <br/ Our favourites here are the Char Kueh Teow (Fried Flat Rice Noodles) and the Har Mee (Prawn Noodle Soup). Mum also likes the Otak-Otak, a Nyonya spiced steamed scrambled egg with herbs and pieces of fish. <br/ <br/ The Char Kueh Teow arrived after 10 minutes. It was good, however, the serving had reduced by 20% since my last visit. The Har Mee was next and this soup noodle only filled 70% of the bowl. Though it tasted fine I was disappointed by this small serving. Despite being still hungry I gave the Otak-Otak to my Mum to fill up. <br/ <br/ I believe these noodle dishes at Mama Malaya are of the same standard but the servings there are much larger. So for now its adios Taste of Penang until your serving size improves. My rating for this restaurant reduces from 4.5 to 4.0"

"Generous servings, such fresh delicious flavours and cheap!!I had salt and pepper quail which was finger licking good and the lemongrass beef salad was so yummy! My husband had the pho and said the broth was the best he's had in a while. The service was friendly and very fast and we really enjoyed sitting on the deck enjoying the cool breeze on a warm day."

"I have been here a few times.. and although I have only eaten the one dish again and again (Satay Chicken) I thought it had enough flavour and was really nice.. enough to comment on to friends and they have very generous portions! However, every other time I have dined in.. but one day I went for takeaway and caught a bus home (took a good half an hour extra). By the time I got home, the rice was cold and that day I found the dish to be a little lacking in flavour.. not worth the effort, as well as their takeaway servings were rediculously smaller for what you get when you eat in store and pay the same either way. Haven't been since."

"This is my go-to Thai place. Everything is delicious. The ice cream and iced Thai milk tea are so good. The only downside is the price, but it is understandable that the costs of running such a big restaurant with such number of staff and a big menu are inevitably high. I would say that it's worth what you pay for!"
