"It a popular place for dinner. And a head chef and his team had done well. Many choices on a menu. Reasonable price, pay attention for decoration, tasty meal, and the head chef he is definitely care about the customer complaining or appreciate if they...meal good or bad he will be keen to make you guy happy. Why I knew cos I experienced."

"I was a bit comprehending spending a bit more than average for a bump chip and salate, but sacred moly. that was the best steak I ever had. offers, tasteful, cooked for perfection. I could rave, but you got the point. wagyu Rump....you like one. eat here!"

"We recently visited Cooktown and was advised the Balcony Restaurant was the best in town!!! If this is the best then I would not like to see the worst. The food was very average indeed. We all decided to have something refreshing to eat so ordered the Queenslander Prawn salad, it was delivered to us with a plate full of baby spinach with a little of everything else on the plate including the main ingredient 'Prawns'. The prawns had obviously been frozen ( which one understands) however they should not have been defrosted in water and then plonked on top "ALL 4 IF THEM" yes - 4 only!!! that when you peeled the head and the tail off the freezing dank prawn water ran down your hand and into your plate. All this for $25.90. On speaking to the staff they apologised however if they reported our comments to the Chef he obviously didn't care as he did not bother to come and see us. The staff were very pleasant however it is not their position to be apologising for someone else.Wake up guys, and in addition it would be a good idea to improve your cocktail making at $16.00 a pop also."

"Love the history of this place (built in the goldrush.) And the first Thai restaurant we have found in our 3 weeks of travelling. Friendly greeting by Thai waitress. Interior had character, but was too warm. Neither cril6ing fans nor air con were running. When I asked if air con could be turned on, they turned on 2 of the ceiling fans only (which were not near the table we'd been given). We were the only patrons at the time. We ordered curry puffs as an entree, and 2 mains. The curry puffs were excellent value (5 for $7). But why not an even number in the serve to allow for equal sharing? The mains were generous, but flavour was a little lacking. Overall good value. Nice food. But could be better."

"I was in the river of gold motel earlier this week for a business trip and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. the room was clean and comfortable, with great cooling for a few incredibly hot and humid days. the actual excerpt was, however. not only the service of mick, lee and their employees, but the incredible eating and wein in their hotel restaurant! my colleague and I ate both nights here and eating was great. incredibly well cooked barramundi and lachs. I would highly recommend if they travel to cooktown for both accomodation, meals and friendly owners and employees."

"What a fantastic place to watch the sunset with a glass of wine and a good meal. Three of us had different main courses and they were all very well prepared and the steak spot on medium rare. The service was friendly and relaxed, we didn't feel pressured at all and sat enjoying the atmosphere and company. We didn't intent to have dessert but couldn't resist the temptation."
