"OK, so I know this isn't going to be fine dining. But it was grim from beginning to end. Full of ramaging children, the place is not at all clean, staff not really bothered. This chain of restaurants is currently or about to be sold off and it shows. Food was equally bad, no point in complaining as staff would not have cared and it was hard to know where to begin with the faults. To be avoided."

"Visited today bought a couple of plants decided to have some lunch. I had a cheese/pickle sandwich like most places the cheese is tasteless. Why do they all use cheap cheddar? coffee was barely warm and given one sachet of white sugar per...person. Asked for more sugar and could we have brown and up she came with some brown sachets another one each. What is the matter with the staff should know always brown sugar with coffee. Not many customers in there but the tables were left ages before being cleared. Main gripe is they need some flans we were in the actual café part and it soon became very hot indeed. We would not rush back to eat there that is for sure. It could be so much better with better trained staff."

"Lovely intimate café full of character, amazingly imaginative menu. Pleasant and attentive staff, the food was cooked to perfection, for 3 people at a busy lunchtime the service was incredibly quick! We opted for the breakfast muffins which were outstanding."

"Visited this pub twice while on holiday in East Anglia. The food on both occasions was first class. The pub has a charming old world feel and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I would thoroughly recommend The Plough to anyone visiting the area."

"On January 1st my wife and I went out looking for some where to have a coffee.Where ever we went normal places were closed.I knew of one place that was sure to be open.Bateman's cafe. Brightlingsea. Sure enough not only were they open it was packed(As usual). The staff were so efficient and pleasant it didn't take long to get our coffee and scone and cream which was delicious.The cooked food coming out of the kitchen also looked very appetising. The prices were also very reasonable. This place is unique in that it has very little indoor seating.Outdoor seating has perspex round to protect from the wind. This place opens no matter what the weather and you have to dress for the weather. You can be sure of a welcome and as such very popular. I have heard that the only day they close is Christmas day. Well worth a visit. It is a pity there are not more like them."

"What a wonderful tea room. Such a friendly greeting and felt instantly comfortable. My daughter loves a cooked breakfast and here you can have one any time of the day. I ordered a jacket potato with chilli and cheese and wow, it was big and so beautifully cooked with a crispy skin and so very tasty. I would highly recommend eating here."
