"We have just returned from our 2 nights in carbis bay. it took us two years to come here and it was worth waiting. we were there for the jubilee weekend. ilma was at the reception and greeted us with such a warm presence. the whole staff was beautiful. we are made with our 9 month baby and we were made to feel home. we got a larger room and one with a bathroom for baby and the travel bed was already set up for us with bed linen. the rooms were luxurious and spacious. we had dinner and breakfast both days. we were also shown for our possible high time. we had treatments that were the best we ever had! the spa is relaxing and beautiful and we had cocktails there. the views are something else. we had lunch in the beach hut and that is where we also look for our high time. the relaxed beach vibe is located directly on our road. they had made fresh paella and they melt divinely. the next night we ate at the walters. the new beach restaurant and wow! was delicious. we had a creamtee on our last day and it is just out of our weekend amazingly finished. we come back and hopefully book our high time. thanks to all the staff. helen, steve and Sydney-Margot"

"We went on a Saturday evening with friends and first impressions weren't great. The dining room was cold, and there were few other diners. We ordered starters, which were ok (trout, sardines and mackerel) but not especially memorable. Of the main courses, only the Turbot (at £40) was good, but the Gurnards and other dish were served luke warm and were tastless. Even the fries were very disappointing and cold. The waitron we had was attentive but it really didn't feel like the kitchen was trying very hard. As we were celebrating a birthday, we didn't want to spoil the evening further by making a fuss, but we left feeling we wouldn't every return. Such a shame as many reviews were so positive and expectations had been high."

"My wife and I had a delicious dinner here. I have dropped the last negative reviews on the way in and my heart. we almost turned around to find a pub. I'm so glad we didn't. the Valentine menu was excellent. each cure had the boil. balanced textures and aromas perfect. a comment below is that the employees do not know their weeping. maybe not, but there are restaurants in cornwall where they pay an additional £30/head for this service and there is an extensive wine menu to choose from. we were in the igloos and the staff must be out at all weathers to serve them, and come out and out of the zipper doors. it is a feat that eating came hot at all, what it did. They were attentive and polite. I can imagine in the daylight that the excavators and works are unsightly. we were there at night and only saw the two-socked lights over the mouth. the house itself is quite large with a beautiful work of art and a rich history. the igloos are a clever idea. they are heated and there are covered. in the position to sit ‘outside’ on a windy februar is a beautiful experience in the U.K we were comfortable, but I work advice to bring a cloth or a jacket at cool weather. a reviewer complains the igloos are quiet, without music. it's true. but who has no playlist on her handy? we sit down calmly to not disturb others and it created a fine ambiente. we will come back in summer when the expansion work is completed. I give 5 stars to counteract some of the excessively hard reviews."

"We went there on Saturday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary, big disappointment, very salty mackerel pate, fish pieces dry from being over fried, small pizza ordered which came like the toppings had been served on a poppadom, overall presentation very poor. We didn't complain...because we didn't want our evening completely ruined, we will go somewhere else and celebrate our wedding anniversary again as it was one of the big ones . We did tell the waitress we were bitterly disappointed, but only when she asked if everything was okay when we paid the bill. We didn't complain because it was our wedding anniversary and we both wanted an enjoyable evening without a dispute over the meal. We noticed the waitress telling the manager as we were leaving, but he didn't approach or stop us . One star only because I had to, I would have left the star rating blank."

"Went for the once a year doggy swim day and Mojo my black and tan Cocker Spaniel had the best time. He absolutely loved it and we will definitely go again next year. We live locally but aren't people who swim, I can't actually swim and my husband although he can doesn't go much for cold water swimming so we don't use the jubilee pool. However we can highly recommend. Not only is it huge, but it's always got lots going on and it's so clean. The toilets are spotless and there are loads of changing areas too."

"Absolutely excellent from start to finish. I don’t ever remember having had a better meal in my life. The ambience is great and the owners are lovely. They run the show. We had chorizo and black pudding to start which was shared. My wife had the seafood rice which is in traditional Portuguese style and she loved it. It was a big portion but she got through it. It had all sorts in it. I had the Portuguese traditional slow cooked lamb which was served with sliced baked potatoes, broccoli and carrots. All superb. I had home made lemon meringue pie for dessert and my wife had crème caramel which were perfect. We shared a carafe of white wine and a shot of excellent port at the end. Highly recommended. Not too expensive either."

"This bistro has a very attractive room overlooking the sea. The menu has wide choices and the food was excellent. Good wine list. We should have returned for a second evening in our week's holiday nearby if the service had been more restrained. No criticism of the speed (they clearly have good kitchen staff) but we don't need to gossip with an over-friendly waitress, or wait for our bill while she chats at length to other guests."
