"This place feels very Italian from the moment you walk in. The layout, the tiles, the way the counter is laid with all the different cakes and pastries, the great smell of wood fired pizzas, the selection of gelati at the from the window, and the cups and saucers and the black and white uniforms of the wait staff. Great gelato and wood fired pizza! Coffee was a bit mild for my liking, but i do like a strong coffee. I couldn’t fit the ricotta cannoliin but will do so next time!"

"The alley bar grill is located in the pacific suites canberra and many of them are guests who stay in the apartments above, although they do not have to be a hotel guest to eat here. we visited four times during our stay in canberra (three breakfasts and an evening meal). the breakfast is a buffet with fruit, yoghurt, chalk, baked, toast plus speck, sausage, mushrooms, borons, stir and hash brown. there is also a coffee machine and juices and water. the eating was of a good standard, although during the busy times, there was a small delay before empty bain-marie's were replaced. there were only two waiting staff at the mornings we visited...read more"

"Hubby and I met a friend here for lunch recently. We loved walking thru the gallery to get to the cafe, and checking out the artworks in the garden. It was fairly busy at lunchtime, but not crowded. It took quite some time to get any service, and took what seemed like ages to get our meals. Our friend had to head back to work so she was a bit worried about the timing. She in fact had to seek out someone to find out how long it would take. I had duck and pistachio terrine with a peach and fennel salad for $23.90. This was not incredibly generous for the price; i think there was one bit of bread. The terrine was surprisingly bland, and didn't really taste of duck. Hubby had roast veggies with halloumi (only a few chip-sized pieces) for $23.90. Tasty enough but not a generous portion. Our friend had chicken salad with apples, walnuts and celery for $23.90. It looked delicious and fresh, and came with a little jug of dressing. Perhaps because we knew our friend had to race off, it made us all a bit anxious. Somehow I didn't feel there was much atmosphere here, and little attention from staff. The good stuff: they do dairy free/gluten free and vegetarian. It is in a pleasant place; the food is okay but a bit expensive. I had expected a bit more pizzazz to be honest."

"Nice place to meet, not a place to eat. Food was very McCain. If the food was about 65% of the price it is that would be ok. Staff were good. Place has a nice atmosphere."
