"This was a random booking and a wonderful surprise. Deliciously flavoured food, served by friendly efficient staff and set in beautiful surroundings. My companion and I are both vegan the veggie/vegan menu was pretty extensive and the three dishes we tried were very good indeed but there is a larger meat/fish menu which I would assume is equally good."

"I am Canadian and lived in Ambleside for 4 months and visited this restaurant weekly. I recently returned and dropped in to purchase some food. The food was always cooked on the spot, the portions generous, and the hospitality wonderful. I have nothing but positive comments to say about The Old Smithy."

"Would recommend eating here, one of the best tasting fish and chips I had for one. there was a little waiting when it was busy, but it was worth it. the fish was lovely, perfectly crispy and crispy fish. great chips, beautifully cooked. a little expensive, but we were on vacation and have nothing to do with paying for the quality of the food we have."

"We regularly visit this wonderful fish and chip shop when we are in the seen. fantastic eating and a breathtaking view of the water. they can also sit outside shops in a covered area on large wooden tables. foods are freshly prepared for ordering and serving are a good size. the homemade fish cake special was so good and a bargain at £6.75 with a hot drink. to busy times it can be a waiting period that is expected, but they will get a summer to inform them when their meal is ready to collect and at least they will get a good out view during the waiting! the shop limits the number of people inside and they collect food from a side window. the personal is friendly and efficient."
