"We went to the woodman as a last minute lunch on Friday lunchtime. The social distancing is great plenary of room between the tables and super dog friendly. A good start. We have been here many times over the years, but I have to say...I was really disappointed with the quality of the food. I ordered the sea bass which I usually love. It was tempered on a bed of vegetables and I changed new pots for chips. The fish no matter how hard I tryed was over cooked and really dry. Under seasoned and chewy to eat, really unpleasant. The veg were full of water and over cooked the chips were nice. I sent the fish back and received an ‘mmm’ from the server who may have been the landlord I’m not sure. When he returned he advised me not to have it again as it would be the same as this was the way it was cooked. I thought’ so your telling me all your fish is over cooked and dry then’ It had been left in the pan too long. I had shown interest in the lamb shank. A winner you would think so I opted for this instead. It arrived very quickly. It was pretty under seasoned could have been cooked a bit longer and just didn’t taste quite right. The mash potatoes was inedible and quite horrible and the veg once again full of water and very over cooked. I eat the lamb but wasn’t impressed and left the rest. All through this I could hear the constant ping of a micro wave going off and that when it dawned on my why the mash wasn’t very nice. It tastes of reheated mash and I can only think the same of the lamb. It certainly was not cooked fresh to order. My husband had a steak which he did enjoy and we both agreed the cheesecake was very nice. In these times of austerity a nice lunch is a treat for us that we don’t do that often. I didn’t feel it was value for money and was left feeling really let down and disappointed with an expensive bill that did not reflect in any way the quality of the food. I’m not one to complain but feel it needed to be said. Sorry woodman we won’t be coming back in any hurry."
