"The meal I had at La Table Gourmande was serviceable in terms of food; however, the waiter ripped me off when it came to the wine, and I was stupid enough to let him. I ordered a bottle of pinot noir "de Bourgogne" -- a Burgundy -- for my husband's and my dinner, and the waiter came behind me to open it. Instead of showing me the bottle, the usual practice, he poured it from over my shoulder. I tasted it -- not a great wine, but, hey, maybe I ordered a bad Burgundy. I was a little miffed that the wine wasn't just cellar temperature -- it was cold. Since the wine hadn't turned (the only reason for returning a wine after a taste), I accepted it. Then he placed the bottle wrapped in a bubble-type cooler/cuff so I couldn't see the bottle. After he left, I lifted the wine out of the cuff -- it was an Alsacian pinot noir for the price of a Burgundy. Because I had already accepted the wine, I didn't feel right returning it, even though I had every right to. Plus, I didn't have confidence in my French to argue the point. Still, I'm furious that I was conned into accepting a 28 euro bottle for something that was probably half the price. As for the dinner, that also was strange. My foie gras de canard looked completely different from the one served to the French men next to me. Confit de canard (duck) for the main course was meager, overly salty, and served with both rice and potatoes, although it wasn't bad, merely adequate. My husband's salmon was an enormous, moist hunk of fish, though, and he liked it, even if it lacked character. The cheese plate for dessert was the only really nice food we had at La Table Gourmande -- two pieces of cheese, a ripe Munster and a chevre, plus bread.Based on the way the waiter fooled me into the wrong wine, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. It could not have been an honest mistake since the wine was actively hidden inside the sleeve -- no self-respecting French restaurant would do this, particularly with a red. It made me wonder what other corners were being cut at this mediocre restaurant. Avoid this establishment."
