"The Japanese-French fusion of Le 5eme Peche seems to be sashimi style (mostly raw, some lightly seared protein with fresh vegetables. It is sometimes served mixed with fish and meat in the same dish. If you like that sort of thing it could be good for you. Food presentation is all very attractive. Ingredients all seem to be fresh and individually attractive. Price is about the same as the better restaurants in the area. Flavours of the dishes were mostly muted (not strong/spicy enough? . If you expect French food with Asian flavours, as we did, it is not that kind of fusion, so we had a mixed reaction to the food/meal during our visit. It was neither as good as good Japanese food nor as good as good French food. Being something in between it left us less than thrilled. Fusion confusion? Recommend you read up on this place before you go."

"You cannot beat Collioure, so a visit to La Balette was a must. The first thing that struck us as odd was the lack of a written menu. Their strap line was that it was a surprise( not wrong there). They do not do a wine flight which again was poor. The canapés were reasonably good but nothing to write home about. The wine list is fairly extensive but when you look at the prices for local wines the markup is 300-400%. Considering they would get them at ex-cave prices and are all from within a radius of 5 miles, they are being greedy. The courses then started to arrive. They were explained in such a fast dialogue it was hard to understand at all- too rushed. We then had three courses of pure salt. How a chef with a star would allow that out of the kitchen beggars belief. One course was a foie gras dish with what tasted like some speculos biscuits mixed with a lot of salt. Almost inedible. A monk fish course had beans that tasted of salt and nothing else. By now my palette was destroyed and I couldn’t get enough water to erase it. The next course was the first course that had promise but failed on all counts. Low quality tuna again that was pure salt. For me that was it. We refused to be served anything else so spoke to the restaurant manager. He was very good and we came to an agreement about what we were prepared to pay. The staff service was not bad. The restaurant area is a sterile area with little imagination and dreadful accoustics. How this was awarded a Michelin star I have no idea, the dishes on their Facebook page do not reflect what was served. Little inspiration and poor execution. If you want an excellent meal without expensive wines and excellent service go to Neptune. The food there was of a far higher standard, presented very well and the staff friendly and attentive. Would I return to Balette to give them a second chance, the answer is a resounding no. Such a disappointing experience and the first Michelin starred restaurant where the food served was simply awful. I hope it was a one off."

"Had high expectations of this restaurant as it came highly recommended. My dining companions were happy enough with their meals. I had veal, which was tough as old boots and looked like an inexpensive cut of beef. I complained and the response from the waiter was a very disinterested shrug of the shoulders. I really don't think it was veal it was a red meat and correct me if I'm wrong but veal ,in my experience, is pale in colour. I would not return."
