"We were staying in Boulmer for a week and came to the Fishing Boat Inn twice. There is only one chef so the staff are very careful to make sure he/she is not overwhelmed and the diners are not kept waiting. The menu is varied but not many choices, and we thought a little expensive. However, that being said the fish and chips were delicious. The staff were friendly and some of the tables have a lovely view overlooking the sea."

"Lunchtime Indian seemed a good idea after a good walk in the morning, rather tired surroundings but decided to give it a go since you cannot always judge the quality of the food by the surroundings, however I was quite wrong. The vegetarian platter was 2 x samosa’s and a load of onion bhajis, technically a mix but far below what you would typically expect. The salad accompanying it was obviously in mourning for the summer having passed and seemed about as depressed by the decor than we were. The mains came with all the flair of a wet flannel. Soggy rice masquerading as pilau, mains ok but tasted as if the gravy came out of a bottle. Wife liked her vegetables so some consolation. The naan seemed more like a paratha and certainly had never seen the inside of a tandoor. If you love Indian food, steer well clear, it does not taste like the chef does!"

"The front bar is traditionally furnished, attractive and the young barman welcoming and helpful. Sadly you can’t have a snack there but have to go through to either the upper restaurant, or lower if accompanied by a dog. Both spaces are modern in look and very charmless. Service is sweet but very slow. The steak ciabatta had nicely pink meat laid out on the very thick bread. The fish finger stottie was really off-putting — extremely thick slabs of tasteless bread with three goujons of deep-fried fish, not the breadcrumbed fish fingers I expected. And definitely not a sandwich in the usual sense. With indifferent chips it was a massive plate of carbs for £13.50. Would be much nicer if they served less pretentious, simple sandwiches in the bar."

"Met a friend here for lunch. It was our first time; our friend knew it well. I liked the fact that they had a breakfast menu, a lunch menu, and then a section which was breakfasty food that gets served all day perfect. Our orders were a soup of the day, a bacon sandwich and the avocado with egg, bacon etc on toast. Comments on soup, and bacon sandwich were totally delicious. However, when my avocado came, it was very oxidised and grey. I wondered whether to send it back as I don't like complaining, but I decided that I would. They justified it by saying it all gets smashed at the start of the day then gets piped onto the toast... however, they happily took it back and ten or so minutes later, a whole fresh meal came out and it was totally perfect. I'm so glad I said something as there was no comparison to the first plate. Well done for re cooking everything for me, top quality second time round. very relaxed place, no bookings, but plenty of space to wait. Dog friendly too."
