"A little north of brighton lies the pretty village east chiltington, where this super gastro pig is located. this is the heart of the sussex downs that I have visited since childhood every year: one of the most beautiful and untouched places of englands. on a beautiful juli evening the jolly sportsman was packed. drinks were taken in the garden (world class pimms) and then the dinner inside. my guests live in front of place and they recommended this place a few years ago woman magellan and I. we all chose the lamb that was sensational. the cauliflower soup was good, but it could perhaps be a little more flavored. it was just a bit difficult. puddings contain crumbs and summer puddings that were delicious. good wine list. we enjoyed a Chilean pinot noir. service was very friendly. our excellent waitress even managed to get us seconds from the special kiss of the cook, although it was low. I call the service and by Southeast England standards not too expensive. highly recommended."

"The service was slow. When food did arrive the order wrong. Halloumi fries (3 for £6! were cold and burger looked like it was leather with a teaspoon of coleslaw on the side. The sausage breakfast muffin was not nice. Portions are smaller and more expensive than our last visit. Won’t be rushing back."

"We held our wedding reception at ‘The Jolly’ at the end of September and it was just the perfect day for us. The setting is stunning, and the food was amazing. We received so many compliments of the quality of the dishes and how attentive the staff were throughout. The weather was touch and go, but Rob, Chrissie, and the team were really flexible and accommodating so we could thoroughly enjoy our day. We stayed there the night before and the night of our wedding day. The rooms were bright, modern and clean with lovely views of the South Downs. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed! "The Ram is located at the end of a quiet lane in the heart of the Firle village.It is heavily associated with artists Virginia Woolf lived in Firle for example. The Inn itself is a lovely old building constructed in wood and flint with a number of cosy rooms for dining. we stayed the night in Beanstalk which is quiet and located above the dining room very comfortable with a well appointed en suite bathroom. We dined there, too good local produce and friendly service. Great breakfast, as well."
