"I'm not sure why this restaurant has received so many positive reviews. We were staying at L'Ancrage Bed and Breakfast just over the bridge from this restaurant and it was recommended to us by the owner. Before we entered the restaurant we came across two signs informing us that they take cash only. After we were seated at a table we were told that there was no soup, no dessert, and only one type of beer from Nova Scotia. We were OK with that and ordered a pizza, which was not bad. Throughout the dinner we listened to the same Spanish guitar music repeated over and over. Dinner at this restaurant was probably one of the worst dinner experiences we have had."

"Thought it best to update my review of 2012. Some things have changed. Booked a cabin which was part of a package/special which included a $120 credit to be used in the dining room. In the meantime we were given a $100 gift card by a good friend. Chose to change the package for just a cabin and found that the cost of the 'package' exceeded paying for just the cabin and adding $120 to the price. Go figure and do your homework. Understand, we have stayed in excess of ten times in a cabin over that last fifteen years since opening and believe me the setting and surrounding vistas are second to none in this area. That said, also know, we were advised the property is presently in receivership and being managed by an interim manager until a potential buyer is secured. The cabins although beautifully decorated and very unique with stone fireplace and deck and king bed, slate heated floors in the bathroom are very much showing their age.. It appears much needed jacuzzi tub replacements have been completed. It's the small things however that for $360 tax in, you come to expect. Repair the windows that won't close, clean the screens, make an attempt to clear out spiderwebs. Our fault for expecting the same level of creature comfort and amenities. We arrived expecting to find the plate of cheese, grapes and crackers waiting for us in the fridge. Nope. No more. An obvious cut back. Still a small bottle of white and some Perrier but that's it. So being hungry after a round of golf and wanting to sit out on the deck and enjoy the sun, we ordered natchos from the restaurant and asked for them to be delivered. "Ah, we don't deliver sir, but since you asked so nicely, we can do it" $360 remember........Thanks Matt and Cynthia for making that happen... They were good! It became apparent that in the financial state of affairs, minimal money's are being spent and cuts are being made where possible. Does not bode well for a resort of this stature. Consider we contemplated the Fairmont Chateau Whistler but chose Rowena's to cap off our vacation. The restaurant still provides a nice meal however the dinner menu is imited to only five entres. The rest being pub food type fare. Gone are the white linen napkins. There is just not the same level of quality service we have come to expect over the years.... Cutlery not on the table. Yes it is the small things that make the stay ($360/ night remember. ) Bed was a nice king however it was very hard. Very hard. Perhaps we have stayed in too many other high end hotels and resorts (for same or less money and got more) and found excellent high end matteresses. Kind of important. After a very quiet nights sleep we looked forward to a nice coffee in the sun. The old coffee makers have been replaced with Kuiereg (sp) machines which, only in my opinion, don't cut it. Brewed one and reached for the mug..... Singular. Mug..... Not good. Walked up to the restaurant to get another not wanting to push the delivery issue again. While in the restaurant I enquired just by the way... " are we still expecting our basket of B&B breakfast to be delivered to the room at 9:15? As has been the case since we started going here.... "No was the response. You have to come to the restaurant and order and eat here...." Oh, that would have been nice to know at check in" yes things have changed. Part of the romance (and $360 /night) was to have breakfast delivered to your own cottage and be able to sit at the table in one's robe eating breakfast while savouring the view.... Nope. Gone.... A small but incredibly alarming bit of lack of maintenance. As I stepped onto a slate tile immediately outside the curb of the shower my foot could easily have gone through the floor. Been watching this over the last many visits wondering just how rotten the floor is getting where water continuously lays just outside the shower. This must be repaired immediately lest someone a hundred pounds heavier should set foot here. Check out, well, let's have the young lady exude a little enthusiasm, professionalism, "how was your stay with us Mr. Maurer " type of service. Oh, and best check that you have given us our invoice not another's guests.....Going to give the destination the benefit of the doubt relative to the financial situation this resort finds itself in.... We will continue to frequent the Sandpiper golf course here on the property but until an injection of money and service and detail is made, we will likely chose differently."

"The hamburger, beef dip, and chowder at King's Arms are fantastic. If you're in the area don't hesitate to stop in to give these a try."
