"The Marigold has been one of our favourite restaurants. The food was always magnificent as was the service. However this has clearly all changed. What a horrible experience. Yesterday 23rd May 2021 we decided to have Yum Cha at the Marigold. Big mistake. After queueing for almost an hour we finally got a table to only be completely and utterly ignored. No one was interested in serving us as all the waitstaff was fawning over one table and not interested in anyone else. When I tried to get attention from the waitstaff they simply refused to call management and continued to ignore us. Furthermore the few items of food we managed to secure was rancid. Granted we should have looked at the latest reviews and saved ourselves from this horrible experience. We will NEVER be going back there and I strongly recommend others to give this place a very wide berth."

"I ordered the Pork Fillet BBQ and it was really tasty. Got take away to eat on the train. There was so much rice... but the cook put some 'juice ' gravy on the rice so it had a nice taste, especially with the pork. Some token greens thrown on for colour."

"A Thursday night outing to have dinner with the in-laws and a cousin of my wife who she had never met before from Canada. We had booked, so there was a table ready for us, but it wasn't in a good position with a baby chair (that they did have, the in-laws forgot to ask if they had baby chairs when they booked), so they were happy to move us to another table which was a little more out of the way than the main section (thoroughfare) of the dining area.

They were fairly patient with us in regards to how long it took to order, and in the end we ordered a large amount of dishes.

We had the fresh salmon 'rolls' in a zesty chilli lime dressing, which was really amazing. I probably could have just had that dish alone for dinner and be satisfied.

We got a pineapple fried rice, which was very ordinary and lacklustre as not only did it barely have any pineapple, there was no real taste in it either. The fried rice tasted more like it had curry powder added into it, and they just shoved the hot rice into the cored-out pineapple.

We had a green chicken curry and a red duck curry. Both of the dishes tasted nearly the same in the curry sadly, but the chicken curry had a good amount of meat , while the duck had a reasonable amount of meat. Both curries had the same mix of vegetables in it, which I think contributed to why they ended up with a very similar profile.

We ordered a chicken cashew, and also a pad thai. Nothing out of the ordinary there either, fairly plain. The pad thai was even a little on the bland side than normal. Very disappointing unfortunately.

We had a soft-shell crab which was okay, but it was just one single small soft-shell crab (they generally are small, so that wasn't a big deal), but it had been cut into rather large pieces so it wasn't really suitable for sharing.

We also got the seafood platter, which had a combination of grilled salmon, a shredded salad, cuttlefish/calamari/octopus rings, a soft-shelled crab, four large prawns, and some vegetables. Unfortunately it was all sitting in a dressing, so the soft-shelled crab got soggy.

We didn't order any drinks of desserts so there wasn't anything we could say about that.

The overall experience was close to neutral, so I would have rated a 3, if it wasn't for the salmon. That was enough to pull the whole rating up to 3.5.

Also, for the total number of dishes (plus 4 additional portions of rice), was $194. Which for split across 7 people was fairly reasonable.

TL;DR - Okay tasting food, reasonable pricing."

"One of the best Chinese restaurants we’ve visited. We had the Satay Chicken and Rainbow Beef. Both were delicious! The staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely dine here again."

"The worst food I have ever had in Sydney. While strolling through Chinatown, we stumbled upon this place and considering the place has existed since 1975 (as they claim) we thought of giving it a try. A disaster. All that the staff cares about is getting the guests in. Post that they don't give a dime. The set menu that has a fried dim sim, spring roll, boiled rice (a small bowl) and a main (I chose chicken in black bean sauce) was awful . The dish tasted weird with double the salt and straight out of the freezer. Forget about it being expensive, it is close to being inedible. Horrible experience. Giving 1.5 on 5 for the reason that I forgo"

"The problem with loving Hanioan food is the lack of its availability in Sydney. Most Vietnamese haunts in Cabramatta boast of the best food but often it's Saigon specialities. The dish pictured is a Southern version of the Northern dish Bun Cha. In Hanoi if you climb tiny stairs and be willing to sit on baby stools you get awarded with Bun Cha my fav salad served with char grilled pork, assorted salad leaves including mint and vermicelli noodles. The dish at Pho Ngon comes with spring rolls (deep fried) and to be honest rather dry. The lime chilli sauce to accompany the salad adds the kick this dish needs. I've tried several things at this restaurants including the laksa, and pork chops with tomato rice. It's conveniently located and has ample seating for group events. There's also a Banh mi (Vietnamese bread roll) stand though the purist in me is surprised to hear they do cheese and chicken schnitzel rolls as well. It's not a place is recommend to people to make the journey for but if you are in the neighbourhood give it a try the friendly owners are worth the visit"

"I ordered lunch with spicy roasted rice. The rice is too Sogig (should be dry). The service was mediocre. It was okay, if you could not bother you to go to better options near the main station."
