"Friends introduced us to this restaurant even though we frequent this strip mall and have walked by it numerous times through the years. They said that the sweet and sour pork was really good so I had to try the dish for myself. Over the years, I can count the number of times on one hand I have ordered take out Chinese food. Over the last 4 weeks I have ordered take out 3 times; basically too lazy to cook after going to the gym. On this last occasion, I ordered Singapore fried rice noodles $9.50) and Cantonese sweet and sour boneless pork $10.95). The total bill with taxes came to $21.47. Both were authentic dishes and tasted pretty good. The rice noodle dish was advertised as spicy but not spicy at all. I’ve had this dish at other restaurants and it is never spicy; basically a mild curry powder used in the dish. The sweet and sour pork had the right amount of sweet and sour. On another occasion we ordered the black bean sauce beef rice noodles flat wide noodles like fettuccine); another authentic tasting dish. Ratings Breakdown • Quality and taste – above average. 3.5 out of 5 rating • Portion size vis à vis price – Dishes were above average value given the size of the dish and the amount paid. For example, the Singapore noodle dish is in the $15 range at Number 9 Restaurant. 3.75 out of 5 rating • Service – The takeout order took less than 10 minutes. 3.75 out of 5 rating I would rate the overall food experience as trending towards good 3.75 out of 5 rating. Notes Tips: • If you’re going to order sweet and sour pork, order the Cantonese Sweet and sour pork that is deep fried and then pan fried the authentic version). The other version is battered deep fried pieces of pork served with a sweet and sour sauce. On all 3 occasions I have ordered the Cantonese sweet and sour pork. • Credit cards accepted • Limited seating inside – seating for approximately 10 people. • 10% discount for takeout over $25. Order ahead to save time. • Located in the strip mall • Lots of parking • Lots of eating options in this mall including Subway, Round Table Pizza, Thai Kitchen, Sushi Han, L A Grill Bistro and McDonald’s. • Check website for additional information"

"Jade is a great place for Cantonese dishes and dimsum, definitely the high standard of Cantonese cuisine around the Richmond area. Jade gets 5 stars from me, because I love a special dish that they do so well... their Sakura Pork Patties with Fried...Egg and Fragrant (Scallion) rice. Without this as my personal favorite, it would probably be 4/5 for me. They do one of my favorite simple dishes incredibly delicious! also their cheongfun is pretty good. p.s. I am not sure why the pork patties are called “Sakura”. BUT her Siewmai is also characterized by “sakura” although an extremely standard and ordinary type of Siewmai. Only the sakura patties with rice are what I recommend! The spices, taste and texture of these (correct) pork patties are really goldenstar!"

"This restaurant is located in Parker Place (immediately to the left as you enter the front door). Parking is ample but patrons are somewhat haphazard in the manner in which they spot their vehicles within the individual parking stalls. Dim sum is served from and continues until the mid afternoon. Prices for dim sum are comparable to other Chinese restaurants of similar calibre. I was not impressed with the food court within Parker Place as the housekeeping needed improvement."

"The steam dumplings and Shanghai fried thick noodles are their signature dishes. The beef wrap is very tasty. If you never try small wonton you can find it here. I have tried the braised chicken noodle soup many place and I love this one the most , very tasty and noodles are soft. We love this place and the prices are reasonable."

"There are lots of different dim sum restaurants across town but we like to try different places – which explains how we wound up at Royal Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. It’s located on the 2nd floor of the Garden City Shopping Centre mini mall located at the corner of Blundell and Garden City Road. When we arrived on an early Sunday morning, there were plenty of tables available but they did fill later on (still not a huge line-up tho’ . Most items that we tried on this visit were $7.45 (except for the dessert dish that turned out to be $4.35 . The first dish to arrive was the Spicy Beef Tripe. The honeycomb tripe was fairly tender but we didn’t notice the spiciness until afterwards when the chili sauce hits the back of your throat. Next was the steamed Shrimp and Pea Tips dumplings which is a nice departure from the regular har gow. I found that the Beef Rice Rolls were a bit basic but satisfying. For dessert, we ordered the Mango Pudding – which was a fairly firm incarnation. The presentation could use a bit of an upgrade from the 4 blocks of pudding that we received (a very utilitarian display . The last dish to arrive at our table was the Baked BBQ Pork Buns with a pineapple crust topping. These came out freshly baked and had a soft and warm bbq pork filling. The cute turtle shape didn’t detract me from eating it. Overall, most of the dim sum dishes here were pretty good so we decided to return for a visit in late September to try more of their dim sum dishes. The Deep Fried Shrimp Spring Rolls (L came out hot and had a nice crispy bite to them. As if we didn’t need more fried foods, we ordered the Deep-Fried Silver Thread Buns. I felt like these came out a bit dense and not as light and airy as it should be on the inside. Next were the Chicken Feet in Spicy Sauce (M . Followed by the Coconut Osmanthus Pudding (S . I really like how this came out (a bit more decorative appeal compared to their mango pudding . Actually, I really liked this – especially mixing the flavours together in one bite. But we weren’t done yet… We also ordered the Special Rice Roll with Fish Paste and Bean Curd. It’s funny because I’ve only just started noticing this rice roll dish being served at more dim sum places recently. While the fish paste filling in the middle was quite nice, I thought the bean curd wrap that encased it wasn’t crispy enough. Lastly, we finished things off with an order of Steamed Beef Balls. These were a bit basic and lacking in flavour."
