"One of the most embarrassing places to eat. I took my mother out for breakfast at this small cafe we use to go to, the beach wood, we still decided to go even with the negativity around the name after the old owners left. We ordered the basic breakfast and didn’t even get our food, it took 45 minutes of us(2 people) waiting patiently. I eventually went to the foodpass and saw the staff (3) standing around talking and then when confronted about the lack of service and food, they quickly apologized. I told them we are leaving due to the extraordinary long wait, and they said “you can’t do that”. I responded yes I can we haven’t even got our food (the time was now approaching a 50 minute wait). Amazing service if you enjoy waiting while watching countless skip the dishes and DoorDash workers receive the orders first, to keep their schedule on track, while ignoring the dining customers. Will not ever come back. We went to white spot across the street and were seated quickly and received our food in less then 10 minutes , when we brought up our experience about the beach wood, the employee said that we a one of many who say the beach wood is a terrible place to eat, they hear it all the time! Thankyou white spot, no thanks beachwood cafe!"

"When I lived in Courtenay this was our go to restaurant for breakfast. My favourite is the bennies with bacon and tomato. The hollandaise sauce is homemade and its served with fresh pan fried potatoes and fruit. On recent visit back to Courtenay this place was on my list and the food did not disappoint."

"6 of us went out for dinner on March31.Quite surprised that the menu was not up to date.No Veal Schnitzel or Oysters and other Seafood.Some of the Desert Selections were not available also.I could understand if were in there late at night,but we were the first ones of the day.We all enjoyed what we had,The service by Theresa was good,Unfortunately,when it came to paying the bill.The Card Machine was down.Always beneficial to have cash with you.We will see what happens in the future."

"We were a party of 4 adults and 1 child (seven years old). Our child loved the chicken strips and fries. I had a veggie burger which was homemade and good. Our server was so so and that's why I give it an average rating. We will try it again. I don't think you can judge by one experience."

"Been here twice and for a reason. I know it’s more of a upscale restaurant so I expected it to be more on the expensive side, and no surprise it was. The decor was fabulous and would be great for a business meal but the waitress I had (both times) was almost rushing us. I felt that was rude.. but the meal was great!! The steak was well cooked just the way I liked (medium rare) and the salad had a odd flavour but was really good!"
