"We had read about A Proa in the past but we were reluctant to try it as I 'm a vegetarian and it seemed to be basically a sea-food restaurant. This time we tried it and we were very glad we did. We were warmly welcomed...by a getleman and shown to a table, then (maybe because we were English speaking) the proprietor came to serve us She has a remarkable gift for languages and when she realised we were Irish she greeted us with 'Cead Mile Failte ' (Irish for A hundred thousand welcomes)...very impressive! It was so good we went back twice. I was very happy to have a mixed salad and a cheese omlette and chips while my wife had the monkfish rice (very generous portion and very tasty) another night she had the sea-bass served with vegetables and potatoes and was very pleased with that too They had an interesting (and very affordable) wine list. We like to finish our meal with fresh fruit and we enjoyed both the fresh pineapple and Galia melon. We also enjoyed an Amarguinha as a digestive, something we first tried in the Algarve nearly thirty years ago. This is a family run business, serving excellent Portuguese cuisine. Plenty of locals are regulars here and that speaks volumes for the place. We enjoyed the service, the atmosphere and top quality dishes. It will definitely be on our list for a return visit."

"This restaurant is situated just outside the čentre of town, but still a short walk from the beach. You can sit outside or inside. Outside lets you see the chef cooking his feasts in an open oven, from which the fabulous smell makes your mouth...water. The restaurant is on the site of an old well, hence the name. Four of us had steak on the stone- a huge slab of beef fillet and a searing hot stone, to let you slice it and cook it to your own taste. This huge plateful cost only €12.50 and is accompanied by fries. We had five large meals plus drinks for €60. One of the waitresses was a bit glum, but the other, younger one was delightful. Highly recommended."
